Amazon.co.uk Review
And Now for Something Completely Different, Monty Python's first feature, is a reworking of their best skits from the first two seasons of the TV series. Originally made for the US market (where the show had yet to be aired), it was shot on film outside the usual studio sets ("Nudge Nudge", for example, is set in a tavern filled with passers-by). The writing and performances are fine and the film is packed with some of their best bits: "How to Avoid Being Seen", " Hell's Grannies", "Blackmail", "The Lumberjack Song" and "The Upper Class Twit of the Year", among others. Many of the sketches have been shortened, however, and the loss of the overly bright video sheen (the film has a muddy, dull look to it) and the invigorating presence of a live audience leaves the film sluggish at times. They're still feeling out the possibilities of the feature length, which they conquered with their next movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1974). --Sean Axmaker
Great!

Monty Python up to their usual hilarious standard. It's all as funny as ever, and well worth a buy, but some prat reviewer seems to have got the wrong end of the stick.
It's not supposed to be completely different. It's just a name for the compelation of sketches.

And now for something completely vintage...Review date: 2007-07-09 Rating: 6 out of 10Bought this on VHS years ago and just got round to upgrading to DVD.
Not quite how I remember it from years ago but still good quality fare from the pythons. You've read all the reviews about what sketches are included so I wont elaborate further. Seemed to be quite a lot more Animation in it than I remembered too and fairly sure some of the sketches have been 'Trimmed'. (Upper Class Twit of the Year and Vocational Guidance Councellor) but if so, it does not take anything away from the sketch and I'm sure if I checked my old VHS copy I would be proved wrong.
Anyway. The DVD itself....

Its a bit like meeting an old friend from school. You're happy to see them but you cant believe how different they are from how you remember them...Love it, love and love it again!Review date: 2006-10-18 Rating: 10 out of 10As it practically states above, I'm a big fan of 'And Now For Something Completely Different'. It's absolutely brilliant! Most people I know who have watched it have probably watched it time and time again afterwards. If you're a fan of comedy, this is definitely for you. My theatre group are in particular very partial to it as we're all a very energetic, highly comedic group. I especially love the 'Lumberjack Song', the 'Parrot Sketch' and the cartoons between the sketches. Genius.GreatReview date: 2006-04-14 Rating: 10 out of 10As a film this is not brilliant. A better description is that of an extended episode of Monty Python's Flyng Circus containing all the best known sketches. Admittedly some of the real genious of python is lost as some really good sketches have been omitted. the most interesting thing about this film is the way that the different sketches have been updated since their first TV outings. The sketches contained are funny including the surreal and silly 'Hell's Grannies' and old favourites like 'Dead Parrot.' The fact that more money was there for this picture means that the quality of some of the sketches is improved. The drawback is that some of the less well known stuff is not included. This film is good as a basis for an interest in python. the next step should be to buy the megaset from the USA because unfortunately the beeb has not yet seen fit to release a half descent MPFC title in the UK. If you still aren't convinced buy the 'best of' but this isn't great as it also misses a lot of the good sketches nd you end up with virtually the same thing as with the film.my nipples explode with delight !Review date: 2004-05-14 Rating: 10 out of 10This film consists of reworkings of sketches from Series 1 & 2 of Flying Circus. If you havnt seen the TV series then this sums it up really. It includes classic sketches such as The Hungarian Phrase Book, Dead Parrot Sketch and Self Defence Against Fresh Fruit. Great stuff!
