Laughed twice
Review date: 2008-02-15 Rating: 4 out of 10
Wasn't sure what to expect at all, but rented this DVD on the strength of previous reviews. Definitely not a "comic genius", but some streaks of clever and original material (in its day). A likeable character but nothing to write home about. Not a patch on Chris Rock or Richard Prior. I am only making comparisons with other black comedians as Dave talks about being black almost the entire way through his set. Been done better by others, but not bad for a couple of chuckles.

Dave Chappelle - Killin' Them SoftlyReview date: 2006-06-24 Rating: 8 out of 10I came across David Chappelles stand up on a compilation dvd of the Just for Laughs festival. His section was only a few minutes long but he was easily the funniest comic included.
I decided to look him up and found this dvd at a low price. Im glad I got it. David Chappelle is hilarious. From the baby on the corner in the ghetto to the unbelievable stories of his white friend "Chip", this dvd is hilarious from start to finish.
Highly recommended.he only feigns the hysteria ...Review date: 2005-12-25 Rating: 10 out of 10Dave (David) Chapelle, born 1973 in Washington D.C., educated at the "Duke Ellington School of The Arts", since 1992 supported by Whoopie Goldberg, is becoming famous now in Germany by his regular comedy show on European MTV. Only a coloured person like him can permit himself racial jokes. But presented by him, relaxed, you have to laugh - nevertheless if you are black or white, asian or latino. He only feigns the hysteria, mocks the enthusiasm, leading suburbian street subcultures back to the roots of reason. I like his joke "Who are the scariest people? White guys in black gangs. No telling what they did to get respect." In "Killin' Them Softly" he creates sketches of the church child up to the drugs consumer, of the "Sesame Street" up to the government, really about everything, which seems to be "typically American": So his brain-work is a wonderful help for Europeans, not to take too seriously the USA ...Dave chappelle is a legendReview date: 2005-01-07 Rating: 10 out of 10I venturated my self as far afeild as america this year annd came across dave chappelle, this guy is funny iv'e seen this dvd about ten times and i still wet my self with laughhter hes a comedy geniusDave continues to inspire me...Review date: 2004-04-02 Rating: 8 out of 10Being from England, not many folks have taken much deserved attention to 'Dave Chappelle's' stand up's although many are familiar with his face due to his appearance in such blockbuster's as 'Blue streak' along side 'bad boy's' star 'Martin Lawrence'. I took a risk buying this DVD and now this lays in my best of DVD collection... disappointed its only an hour long, I was left with a sore throat from laughing so much anyway... I anticipate his HBO comedy series coming to DVD (hopefully soon). Dave has many valid comments that leave us, as the home audience shouting at the screen to confirm our relation and strong agreements to him. Members of the audience, of whom he asks a “white man” who he’s going to vote for, prove his perspective on the American society accurate. He replies "don't know" as Dave goes on to expound the alterations of black people and white people and somewhat link ethnicity from democracy to Sesame Street. Oh', don't worry, the Mexicans and Cubans are shot at too. His stories are off the charts and his timing couldn’t be better with the punch lines... something to get your friends over for as you scramble for the rewind button on the remote. Top quality entertainment... very funny... reccomended to everyone who enjoyed 'Kings of comedy' or even 'Chris Tucker' in 'Rush Hour'. A definite must have (if your looking to expand your comedy tittles).
