What about the TV show?Review date: 2006-06-16 Rating: 6 out of 10Not a bad film at all, particularly Peter Cook's performance. But the TV show was outstanding, with John Cleese in the role of L'Acrobat, David Kelly brilliantly funny as the Shah of Iran's manservant, Alexei Sayle as Commissar Solzhenitzyn ("no relation") and many other brilliant comedians involved. When will the TV show be released to DVD?Unemployment is caused by pixies!Review date: 2005-10-26 Rating: 6 out of 10Whoops Apocalypse is a cosistantly funny parody; with some great performances; in particular Peter Cook as Sir Mortimer Chris, the barmy Prime Minister. I found the sequence of him reducing unemployment by getting people to jump off a cliff funny. Many say that compared to the TV show this is a come down, which I have to agree on. Michael Richards is good, but he can't outdo John Cleese's Lacrobat. It also recycles some jokes from the show; especially with the news reports. But on its own merit, this film is still very funny film. If nothing else its worth watching for the SAS scene, and a great theme song playing over the end credits. Also the chances of the TV series being re-released look very slim, so we may need to make do with this.
when it's good...Review date: 2004-03-19 Rating: 10 out of 10its very good, but there's some elements which don't quite work.
however, these are outnumbered by those which do. the 'sas rescue' scene is hysterical, with a profanity level which wouldn't be normal then but is now.
also contains one of teh funniest, most ludicrous lines ever uttered on film - 'quick, search...!'
won't spoil it for you. if you've seen it you know what i meanALL STAR CLASSICReview date: 2004-02-10 Rating: 10 out of 10Everyone involved in this film puts in a star performance. From Peter Cook portraying that greatest of all British traits (insanity). Alexi Sayle doing what he does best, playing a communist. The American President's bodyguards showing that all American obsession with over-reaction and best of the lot, Rik Mayal leading the psychotic but hopelessly inept SAS. Watch out for the SAS and the lift scene. I cannot recommend this highly enough, even better than the series it was based on
