the second world war tale of women and their children, the hardships that they endured when taken into captivity.This is not all lying cells on starvation rations, but is pretty grim in places, it also focuses on the human side of relations within the group. Some of the characters turn out to be unlikely heroines, the acting is very good from the lead characters, it coveys the heat, and at times the desparation of the plight of the prisioners.
The not knowing the fate of their husbands,sons and other loved ones. The guards of the camp led by the cruel Yamauchi seem bent on making their lives a living hell.
When first shown on british tv, the series was cult viewing, the quality of the acting and the sense of living from one episode to the next within the compound, made it, and still makes it a british classic.
