Amazon.co.uk Review

There's only one better way than watching Live In New York City to experience these performances by Bruce Springsteen and his reunited E Street Band, and that's if you were actually in Madison Square Garden when they were recorded in June and July 2000. The Boss and his band are in top form. Their sheer exuberance at playing together, not to mention the joy and inspiration they provide their audience, are palpable, thanks in no small part to the excellent direction and superb sound. Highlights? Almost everything, from timeless anthems such as "Born to Run" and "Thunder Road" to the riveting "American Skin (41 Shots)" and a bluesy, solo "Born in the USA" All together now: Bruuuuuuce! --Sam Graham, Amazon.com

Almost as good a being there

Having been a Springsteen fan since about 1984, I'd kind of followed him from a distance since the disappointing Human Touch and Lucky Town. Ghost Of Tom Joad was an astonishing piece of art, but it seemed as if he'd put his rock and roll days behind him. Then on a visit to New York in 1999 I saw in Time Out that he'd reformed the E-Street Band and was playing arena gigs again. I cursed my luck that I couldn't fit a show into my schedule, got on with my holiday and forgot about it. Then on a Saturday night in 2001 Channel 4 screened THIS. Quite honestly, apart from Born In The USA, Born To Run and Ghost of Tom Joad, I didn't know his back catalogue all that well. This is not a full on collection of hits, yet it had me spellbound. The passion, the humour, the searing guitar work by Bruce, Nils and Steve, the bombastically romantic Sax solos by Clarence and the crowd interaction knocked me for six. Much of the concert is filmed with the house lights up so you can see how much fun the crowd are having and at points they play as integral a part of the show as the crowd on "Live At The Regal" by BB King. 7 years on and I've been to 4 shows and often wonder whether I would have rediscovered Bruce if I'd had something else to do that Saturday in 2001. I guess what I'm saying is that if you don't want to be a Springsteen fan, don't watch this DVD. If you are, however, in the slightest bit interested, you'll finish it, return to the menu and start all over again, each time seeing something new and rewarding. Welcome on board this train.

This is quite simply the most breathtaking live recording I have ever purchased. Tear inducing, awe inspiring and god darned jaw dropping. I have seen Bruce live four times myself and this recording is about as close you can get without actually being there. I have seen some great bands live (REM and The Smiths both at the top of their game, and boy they were awesome) but Bruce live is a experience that should be on everyones "things to do before you die" list. If you can't get there to witness Bruce and the E Street Band live, then buy this, all else pales by comparison. Buy it Now!

not as good as I thought it would be

I'm someone who likes Bruce Springsteen's songs when I hear them on the radio.I'm someone who can play a guitar and likes guitar music. But most of the songs featured in this concert had music and singing that sounded plain loud and so didn't stand out.The best and most welcome version I heard was the unusual take of Born In The Usa where Springsteen plays long and slow on a guitar that sounds like a sitar from the east,as,of course,a direct link to vietnam and the war.I've heard a lot of people rave about this concert saying things like "it's the best concert ever by anyone." Not really. Bruce and the E Street Band gave it their all and gave too much.Lacking in subtlety and overall a little disappointing but
plenty of tracks and interviews on the 2 discs.

A Must Own DVD!

I've been a Bruce fan for quite a few years now and this was the first one of his DVDs that I bought. It is unbelievable! While the Boss himself looks a little more tired and older than on the Live In Barcelona DVD, his voice suits the set list perfectly and the show is great. The sound quality is excellent and the renditions of the songs, particularly Mansion on the Hill, Youngstown and Atlantic City are great, breathing new life into the classic acoustic songs. The long version of Tenth Ave. is arguably the highlight of the DVD, with Bruce playing to all the crowd, telling a story to the music and introducing the band members with great titles (The secretary of intelligence, the dean of the university of musical perversity...Professor Roy Bittan on the piano!). Born in the USA is a chilling and superb acoustic rendition and Jungleland has never sounded better. And Light of Day...well just wait and see!!!

A must for Bruce fans and all music fans. Fantastic!

Now some would say that Cold Play are the greatest band in the world. That U2 Have the edge. Or even that Keane write some of the best songs. And you might even find that most younger people havn't heard of him. What I cannot describe to you in words is this concert. But I'll have a go. What you get is a band so in love with what they are doing and a man who is the best live performer, shownman and songwriter in the world. Keep your Queen and your Micheal Jackson. This is truly wonderous. Three hours worth of songs and it still left me thinking of the countless songs that they couldn't fit in. Most new bands wouldn't have three hours of material all together. All of the band are over fifty and can still wipe the floor with any band in the world. To do what they did is unbelievabe. I sat and watched it non-stop and spent the whole time with a huge grin on my face. This is the best concert I have ever seen, or ever will. I've never seen a group of people enyoy themselves so much.
