Amazon.co.uk Review

Pretty Brittany Murphy and prettier Ashton Kutcher make a surprisingly enjoyable comic team in Just Married, a romantic comedy about a horrible honeymoon. After a whirlwind romance, radio traffic announcer Kutcher and rich girl Murphy get married over the objections of her upper-crust family. Their love can overcome snobbery--but as the cuddly pair start to drive each other nuts over mishaps travelling through Europe, it starts to look like their love can't overcome intimacy. Just Married has a sprightly script that keeps one foot on the ground (unlike some recent romantic comedies that seem to have no connection to reality) and one eye on the small ways in which lovers can get on each other's nerves. Kutcher and Murphy have a sweet yet volatile chemistry that keeps the antics lively. --Bret Fetzer

If this is a rom-com - Kill the Director!
Review date: 2008-07-08 Rating: 2 out of 10

I watched this film on TV the other day. It is absolutely DIRE!

The story - a loving, likeable, young couple get married and go through a disasterous honeymoon, then split up on returning to America. Will they get back together? What do you think???!!

Typical scene - the couple spend the night stuck in their car in a snowdrift at the edge of a cliff. In the morning, they manage to pull themselves out, then throw a snowball at a passing car in the hope that the driver stops and offers to help pull their car out. The driver, an old woman, reverses into their car, pushing it off the edge of the cliff, raises her middle finger and drives off.

If this happened to someone like Basil Fawlty, it would be funny. However, because this is happening to a genuinely nice couple, with whom we sympathise, and who have already had a string of (unfunny) bad luck experiences, it is not funny.

I found the whole experience rather depressing, and was too bored by the end of the film to enjoy the predictable ending.

If you want to see a funny film about relationships, watch 'Happiness' with Philip Seymour Hoffman instead! Hilarious!

a comedy film that is uninteresting and lacking in humour

The humour in this film wasn't effective at all. There is nothing subtle about the acting and the characters were uninteresting and unlikeable.
Buy something else instead!

Not funny and not suitable for younger children
Review date: 2006-10-16 Rating: 2 out of 10

This dvd carries a 12 rating. I can only assume the censors fell asleep at the beginning, woke up at the end and thought this was a sweet 'rites of passage' movie suitable for a family audience.
Well, it's not. You may not actually see any 'bedroom action' but they certainly talk about it non-stop. So unless you have a very precocious 12 year old, or are prepared for some very explicit discussions with your child afterwards - do not allow an under 15 to watch this movie.
Other reviewers were obviously watching a different film to me; it was not funny, unless you find very obvious slapstick funny, the characters were under-developed and the 'snobby family' alluded to in the official write-up are very much sidelined and two-dimensional.
Brittany Murphy was trying to be Jennifer Anniston, but doesn't have her lightness of touch or her comedy timing.
This movie promotes the idea that you should sleep with someone (or lots of someones) before marriage, marry without any real idea of what marriage entails, ditch your husband/wife as soon as you encounter any difficulties, try to kill or seriously humiliate your nearly ex husband or wife and then damage property in order to effect a 'happily ever after' reconciliation.
The best bit in the film was the scene where Ashton Kutcher's character goes to see his father (a character who appears only right at the end - very bad story-telling technique) who gives him some very good advice.
This film is a light-weight waste of time for anyone with a brain - really don't bother with it.

Best film Ever
Review date: 2006-09-30 Rating: 10 out of 10

I have been always open to all types of films and if you like a romantic comedy that brings you closer to your girlfriend then this is the film for you. The actors in the film are excellant and you can really realate (though extreme) to how people feel when there holiday does not turn out as planned.

Disappointing
Review date: 2006-07-03 Rating: 4 out of 10

I rented this DVD and settled back with my wife for a fun film, having seen a preview. Unfortunately the two minute preview had ALL the comedy bits in the film.Sadly not funny. Very cliched and a bit twee. Acting was questionable and the characters didn't really work for me. The only thing I would agre with the film about is that marriage takes hard work very often and I give the film 2 stars because it shows marriage as something worth fighting for. But I wouldn't recommend the film for that or any other reason.
Sorry
