Amazon.co.uk Review

As the fourth series of Angel starts, everything is still as we left it: Angel has been sunk to the bottom of the sea in an iron box by his inexplicable and vindictive son Connor and Cordelia has been summoned to higher realms to await orders. Gunn and Fred are left in the Hyperion Hotel, unsure about what has happened to their friends, and Lilah is working hard to seduce Wesley to the dark side. In the first few episodes, some of this is resolved but it's almost immediately replaced by far worse crises: prophesies of doom accumulate more rapidly even than usual in this wonderfully gloomy show and a horned rock-like Beast rains fire on Los Angeles. This last year is Angel's most tightly dramatic season yet--with a story arc of surprising intensity punctuated by the show's usual wit and sexiness.

On the DVD: Angel, Series 4 is presented on disc in Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound with a visual aspect ratio of 16:9. It comes with insightful, and often hilarious, commentaries on seven of the 22 episodes as well as featurettes--a series overview, profiles of the characters of Jasmine and the Beast, a farewell to the Hyperion Hotel (the characters' base for three seasons) and a discussion of the apocalypse that Angel has to deal with from episode seven onwards). It has subtitles in English, French, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish and has the option of the soundtrack dubbed into French. --Roz Kaveney

Im a huge Buffy and Angel fan, and i was so excited about Angel season 4 at first. Like some people have said, it seems season 3 and 4 of angel seems to have divided fans, personally, i love season 3, i love it so much i think it might actually be my favourite season from either buffy and angel, but season 4, just isnt as good. It starts great, and at first i thought it was going to be better than season 3. I love the beast, and the first half of the season has some great episodes, but then, it just goes downhill, slowly at first, but near the end of the season it gets very dissapointing. I agree with all those fans who think Jasmine is the worst villain ever, i wasnt impressed, it just seemed silly, and after the beast, a huge dissapointment. Luckily, the last episode is a good one, and leaves me looking forward to season 5 a lot, but i couldnt help feeling let down by this season, more specifically, the second half, after it had started so well. I gave it four stars for the first half of the season, and also simply because despite the dissapointment, its still the best thing on TV along with Buffy :).

An excellent dvd with amaizing extras such as, commentaries with Alexis Denisof and Joss Wheedon interviews with cast and crew. Not only are the extras excellent but the quality of the dvd is fantastic. The box's look great, the best dvd box set I have, silver inset letters, and the material on the disc containers prevents any harm coming to the dvd.

OH Sweet jesus! *spoilers*

One word will sum up this season and box set, WOW! Not only do you get some pretty cool featurettes but you get 22 whole episodes of the best show ever made without thoses irritating commercials! Highlights of the season are definately the episodes soulless, Orpheus and players, slightly more forgetable but still ace are The house always wins and and in all honesty the jasmine episodes. This has more shock and awe than dubbya can point a bomb at and contains the most well writen scenes in the shows history. BE WARNED that once you start watching this season you WILL NOT be able to stop as each episode starts off where the last finnished. The genius of Joss is again proved with the fantastic twists of Cordy going evil, resuecting Angelus and and having the most powerful demon ever as a flunky (!) will leave you positively humming with satisfaction. So kick the kids out, crack open a chilled one and salivate!

In short - excellent! With so many twists and turns, this is my choice for best season of Angel so far. David Boreanz is again fab as our brooding hero. Charisma Carpenter sassy, sexy and hilarious as ever as Cordy. With newcomer Vinnie Karthiser as Conner it just gets better. Lets hope (even with the shock ending) that we see more of him next season!!!! Bring on Season 5!!!

Remarkable Television!

This season was incredible! Every episode had you hooked with drama, action and mystery that all led to an unbelievable ending. We start thingsoff with a split AI. Angel is at the bottom of the sea while Cordelia isfloating above the heavens. Lorne is in Vegas while Fred & Gunn try andhold things together and care for Connor. Wes is further slipping intodarkness as he continues his affair with Lilah. This season has so manyhighlights! The Beast! The blotting out of the sun and the massacre atWolfram & Hart! Cordelia (or is it really her?) killing Lilah and sleepingwith Angel's own son! The birth of Jasmine and the isolation of Fred! Asfor the ending, who'd of thought that Angel would finish things up as thenew head of his biggest enemy?
This show had me so hooked last year. Since I can only receive the WB on afeed the following night at 2:30am, I used to set my alarm to wake up &watch, then go back to sleep before having to get up at 6am for work. Yesit was that engaging and brilliant! Sadly season 5 has been a completewaste. Only two episodes deserve merit, the show that focuses on a day inthe life of Harmony and the one where Cordelia (yes it is the REAL her)awakens from her coma to give one last gift to Angel. Other than that, itis lame. Killing Cordy, then Fred. Spike and Angel together. Gunn as anattorney. It should have ended last season on a high note.
