Red Dwarf - Tongue-Tied The Video / Tongue-Tied The Making Of Thriller [1993]

For any Red Dwarf collector ...
Review date: 2005-10-26 Rating: 8 out of 10

I'm one of those people who will collect every single thing that there is relating to Red Dwarf (or Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc). And this was my newest addition.

I should start by saying that in terms of comedy quality, the actual story part of it isn't Red Dwarf material. It's written and directed by Danny John-Jules so you won't find any Grant Naylor sort of jokes in it. But in terms of entertainment and collectors, it is a must for any Red Dwarf fan. You get appearances by the cast of RD during the film clip (Queeg and Elvis from "Meltdown" included which made me giggle happily to myself) and at the end of it all, a eight or so minute "Making of" feature which delves into the slightly mad nature of John-Jules, Craig Charles & Robert Llewellyn. All in all, a good purchase for a collector or huge fan but I wouldn't recommend it to those who are not so big fans. I enjoyed it, however.

The Missing Red Dwarf Tape?
Review date: 2003-04-03 Rating: 6 out of 10

I've always been a Red dwarf fan. Not to the point of convention attendance but I had every episode on video - or so I thought. Idling past a second hand store one lazy afternoon I happened to notice a "Red Dwarf" branded video entitled "The Cat - Tongue Tied - The Video." At least this is the title of the first part of the video. The second is actually titled "Tongue-Tied The Making of (a comedy) Thriller" - not just "The Making of Thriller" as our friends at Amazon seem to think.
I parted with the required £3 purchase price and rushed home with my new found treasure.
Well, this tape is a curiosity. If it was to try and stand alone as a piece of comedy writing I hate to say it would probably fall. Anyone who has seen the show a few times will release the odd chuckle. But really this is a collectors item for the true Red Dwarf Fan Base. To them, and I include myself with you, it is an essential purchase. Even if it's just for that "to complete the set" good feeling.
It's only a short tape (30 mins) and is basically just the full version of the Tongue-Tied song. A song and dance routine by the cast which featured in a dream sequence by cat in an early episode. Part two is simple a behind the scenes style documentary featuring the making of the Tongue-Tied video.
I don't know how many copies of this tape are out there (I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who owns a copy). They are produced by Picture Music International not like the traditional BBC tapes. I am curious to know what they may be worth to the collector...but sorry, despite my 3 star rating, I'm going to keep hold of mine.
