Amazon.co.uk Review

Gareth Gates Live is a concert from his first ever tour, in which the Pop Idol runner-up sent thousands of screaming girls into a knicker-wetting frenzy with pyrotechnics, sparkling (and seemingly uncomfortably tight) Elvis costumes and even a spot of flying, albeit with the help of wires. The spiky-haired pop cutie runs through most famous hits, including "Anyone of Us" ("Stupid Mistake"), "Unchained Melody" and "What My Heart Wants to Say". It's a flashy, up-beat affair and Gareth breezes through his act like a seasoned professional, even bringing on Will Young for a couple of duets towards the end. If it all feels rather by-the-numbers, it's nevertheless sure to have Gareth's fans, old and young alike, tapping their feet and throwing their underwear at the TV screen for years to come.

On the DVD: Gareth Gates Live teases with a nicely presented menu screen which leads to some rather sparse extras, including multi-camera-angle scenes, a photo gallery and behind-the-scenes feature. The picture is sharp and the bright colours and occasional pyrotechnics are captured clearly. The 5.1 Dolby mix ensure a good, if not earth-shattering, audio experience, but then Gareth's music doesn't need really need anything more than a serviceable mix. --Jon Weir

Amazing singer, amazing concert
Review date: 2008-08-01 Rating: 10 out of 10

Gareth Gates is such a talented young man who made everyone take their hats off to him throughout the first series of Pop Idol.
Again, he mesmerizes us with his angelical voice and, of course, he makes us sing to his classical hits: Unchained Melody and Anyone Of Us. You'll particularly enjoy the Suspicious Minds performance, where Gareth appears with an Elvis suit on (and he takes our breath away moving his hips). The concert includes a duet with Will Young (The Long And Winding Road) a final song with Will Young and Zoe Birkett, and many songs that aren't well-known but fantastic as well.
It's, definitely, a worthy purchase. If you're a Gareth fan, you'll absolutely enjoy all the songs and the way he sings right from the heart.
If you're not really sure about whether to buy it or not, it's a great chance to discover a real star shining on stage. You won't regret it.

SENATIONAL means GARETH GATES - LIVE
Review date: 2003-06-22 Rating: 10 out of 10

This Is a must have for GARETH fans and any pop fan. With a mixture of 13 sensational up-tempo and gorgeous ballads this dvd shows Gareth excel into all genres of pop music at its best. With songs taken from the brilliant first album 'What my heart wants to say' including the massive no.1 singles 'UNCHAINED MELODY', 'SUSPICIOUS MINDS'(which sees Gareth in an Elvis suite) and my favourite 'ANYONE OF US', we also find him performing the stunning 'SENTIMENTAL' and 'WHAT MY HEART WANTS TO SAY' in the first three tracks sending the crowd into ecstasy. But if that wasen't enough we also find Gareth singing the sensational classic 'YESTERDAY' which has Gareth fans going week at the knees, but we also find Gareth experimenting and pulling off the awsome Michael Jackson cover 'THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL' for his intro. So to sum up in one word, 'BRILLIANT'.
