Synopsis

The story of three roommates at a private school for girls, LOST AND DELIRIOUS centres on Mary (Mischa Barton), who is shy and lonely, having spun on a downward spiral ever since the death of her mother three years before. But when she arrives at prep school and meets her new roommates, Pauline (Piper Perabo) and Tory (Jessica Pare)--fun, happy girls--Mary begins to open up. But just as Mary begins to come out of her shell, she discovers that her roommates are lovers, and, not knowing how to talk about it, she bites her tongue and is left feeling more isolated and alone than ever before. To complicate matters, Pauline and Tory break up. Tory insists that she likes boys. And Pauline becomes an emotional wreck--acting out and changing into a dangerously fragile time bomb. With its complicated plot, delicate issues, and convincing adolescent characters, LOST AND DELIRIOUS is a powerful and disturbing look at first love. The first English-language film from director Lea Pool, the film is based on the novel THE WIVES OF BATH by Susan Swan.

Not for Adults.........
Review date: 2008-04-07 Rating: 4 out of 10

I thought this film was (no other word for it) crap.......
My other half didn't even bother to watch the end....i only watched it as i have an annoying habit of having to see things through to the end whilst praying the end is going to be amazing and make up for the other hour of rubbish - it didn't!
having said that..if i was still 15 i might have identified more with it and subsequently enjoyed it....
Finally, i couldn't help but feel uncomfortable withg the "love" scenes considering the age of the girls...it just didn't feel right to be watching....

Mixed feelings

I can see why other reviewers reacted as they did, I found I had a kind of love/hate thing about it. Piper Perabo was very watchable, a treat for me as I rather enjoyed her Coyote Ugly bar room performance, but the others were a bit limp. There was a deal of resonance in the adolescent emotions, but I found the over-reaction to being spurned a little too embarrassing - possibly because it's not unusal to have those kind of reactions at that age but we don't always like to be reminded of them! I don't think I ever got as far as challenging anyone to a duel (not in real life anyway). It's quite a good quality film, in terms of photography, dialogue, appearance, and casting i.e. looks like a properly funded mainstream movie instead of a low-budget lesbian film.
Given that I'm fast running out of lesbian themed movies to see it's possible I'm getting a little less picky.

I think the problem is that most lesbians watching this would probably have written a different ending. Isn't it at all possible to do mainstream movies like this where the girl gets the girl?

Terrible

If you are an adult lesbian you are unlikely to get much out of this film. If you're a teenage/young lesbian, there are MUCH better coming of age lesbian films than this, try: All Over Me, But I'm a Cheerleader, Better Than Chocolate. There is nothing truely lesbian or moving about this film, it's a schoolgirl affair broken up before they become 'real' adults and get boyfriends, only one of them won't accept it and gets all melodramatic and then somehow turns into a bird at the end. dear oh dear, wish I could get the two hours of my life I spent watching this back.

amazing

there are simply no words beautiful and emotional enough to describe this film, its amazing.

Good debut from Mischa, but there are faults

This is one of the many tales of forbidden love at a girls boarding school. Mary (Mouse) is the new girl at an all girls school. it all seems pretty straight forward until she realizes that her two female room mates are lovers. Tori and Paulie are two lesbians and have succeeded to keep their affair secret until one early morning they are both caught naked in bed. Tori immediatly breaks the affair as it was her little sister that found them. but Paulie isn't prepared to give up Tori that easily. Tori begins a straight relationship with a boy from a nearby boys school and Paulie is insanely jealous this begins a cascade of events from which nobody will remain unmoved. Good acting from Piper Perabo, Jessica Pare and newcomer Mischa Barton. It just shows how far some people will go for love.
