On the DVD: Farscape 4.2 has a wealth of special features that include two deleted scenes--one of them a touching discussion of their love lives between Aeryn and Chiana--and a text guide to swearing in the Farscape universe. There is a documentary about the special effects and a prolonged interview with Claudia Black in which she talks about how the show stretched her as an actress. It is presented in widescreen with a visual aspect ratio of 4:3 and has Dolby Digital sound. --Roz Kaveney Yet however the second dvd in the fourth series is an improvement upon these negatives. the first episode 'Natural Election' follows the crew of Moya faceing the dilema of having to elect a captain whilst avoiding becoming prey to natural selection as a spacefareing form of plantlife invaides the ship. This episode was a probably the first traditional farscape episode of the series with the crew reunited and back upon moya. It expands upon the issue of Aeryns pregnancy and the dilema that it causes between her and John. The episode also features one of my favourite farscape moments when D'argo admits to John that he loves shooting things. 'John Quixote' is one of those episodes that you either love or loath following the same theme as 'wont get fooled again' John is caught in an artificail reality featuring his freinds and enemies playing strange roles in his adventure although this time chiana has also come for the ride. The episode is unfourtunatly incredibly confuseing and as a result many wont like it however in my opinion and the opinions of many others it is one of the seasons best. 'I shrink Therefore I Am' is absoulutely outstanding. John returns to Moya finding that bounty hunters possesign shrinking weapons have boarded her and captured the crew leaving John to fight them with a little help from Scorpious. The Bounty hunters are some of the best villans farscape has had and Wayne Pigram excels in his role as Scorpius. At this point unfourtuantely the episodes take a downward turn. 'A Perfect Murder' involves the crew getting caught up in the middle of two warring clans in the middle of a fragile peace when Aeyrn assasinates one of the clan leaders following a series of violent hallucinations. The episode was just too slow paced for my likeing and featured far too much of the politics within the clans to hold interest. Not bad just not one to go back to often. 'Coup By Clam' is another disapointing episode. The crews bodily functions become linked after sharing after eating a meal of molluscs. This is the result of a plot hatched by the local doctor in order to blackmail them for the cure. The episode was meant to be a feminist tribute but just doesnt seem to show through although admittadly that may not be a bad thing. The only thing that realy makes this episode worth while is seeing the crew share bodily functions and also Rygle and John having to dress in drag so as to rescue the girls. overall though the dvd is worth it and is a great improvement on the last and better is still to come.

Episodes 6-10 of Farscape's fourth series continue the themes set at the start of the year while concentrating on one-off adventures. John Crichton is still upset that Aeryn Sun has not confided in him about her pregnancy; Aeryn is still trying to cope with the loss of his dead copy; Chiana is trying in her lascivious way to get them back together; Scorpius and Sikozu are gradually becoming integrated into the life of the crew, and John and the others are trying to learn to trust their former arch-enemy. In "'Natural Election"', the process of choosing which of the crew shall be captain becomes more urgent when the living ship Moya is attacked by a space-dwelling plant that hangs around wormholes; "John Quixote" has Crichton and Chiana trapped in a surreal gameworld full of old friends and enemies; in "I Shrink, Therefore I Am", Crichton has to rescue his friends from bounty-hunters who have shrunk them and hidden them in their heavily-armoured bodies. Aeryn finds herself compelled to homicidal violence in "'A Prefect Murder"' and time goes wonky on her; Crichton has to get into drag and Scorpius has to vomit a lot to save their crewmates from getting caught in the cross-fire of "Coup by Clam". These are enjoyable albeit routine episodes of the most imaginative space opera ever to hit the TV screen, though they only hint at the wonders that were to come later in this final series.

I met the first dvd of season four with mixed emotions it was great to see what farscape had elavated to. The picture crisp and clear and now in widescrean, the effects and sets looking to be the same standard as those found in blockbuster movies yet the episodes themselves didnt feel quite right. having departed from the dark epic feel of the 3rd and most popular season. The plots were ropey and hard to follow introduciong new characters who were more annoying than anything else as well as being minus the beantiful Aeryn for the fisrt four episodes.

My DVDs just arrived from the continent yesterday. The Two DVDs contained 5 episodes that were fairly self contained with very little previous Farscape experience necessary. They were all excellent. The special features were weak. The deleated scenes should of been kept in but you'll see. Well any way...The first episode in the DVDs is "Natural Selection" where a giant mixed salad attacks Moya. Next the surreal "John Quixote",the violent "I Shrink", the very sexy "A Perfect Murder", and finally the really gross "Coup by Clam".

As usual, Farscape remains the best Sci Fi TV series out there, and this DVD is no exception. The first season four box set was somewhat confusing with 'what was lost'. This box set contains five episodes like the last. None of them are incredibly important to the storyline, they are the episodes that make you wonder how they will get out of each situation. In 'Natural Election', while the crew are choosing a captain for Moya, a wormhole appears attracting a giant space plant that starts to consume Moya. Crichton and the others have to work with Scorpius to kill the plant, freeing Moya. In 'John Quixote', Crichton and Chiana get sucked into a video game full of old friends and enemies. As things get desperate, Crichton begins to wonder if he's escaped the game or not. 'I shrink therefore I am' introduces us to the new, highly evolved breed of Scarran for season four. In the episode, the crew are shrunk and put into a protective containment. Again, Crichton is forced to put his trust in Scorpius, building on their relationship. 'A perfect murder' is set on a planet divided by clan-war. When one of the leaders is assassinated, suspicion runs high around the crew of Moya. 'Coup by Clam' is possibly one of the funniest episodes yet. The crew are getting modifications to Moya and have to go into quarantine before they are allowed access to the planet. What they don't realise is the doctors plan, which results with the crew becoming bodily linked with each other. As they search desperately for the cure, they discover that the doctor does not have it. As the condition becomes worse, Crichton and Rygel execute a risky plan. The extra features on this disk include deleted scenes, an amusing guide to the Farscape language, an interview with Claudia Black and a small documentary on the special effects. Like every Farscape DVD, you should only get this if you've been following right from the beginning. Those who have must get this DVD, as it is one of the funniest yet!
good stand alone episodes.....

After the huge story arc of season 3, it was a slightly difficult (to say the least) to get used to the direction that season 4 initially took. Instead of a clear plots that connect between episodes we have here instead a number of episodes that seem to have no connection to each other whatsoever. Does this mean that this is a bad start to the season? Not necessarily. Although these episodes are no where near as good as the later half of season 4, the moya that we see here, is a good introduction to the darker and more desperate tone that Farscape has taken.
There is nothing really all that new about these epsiodes - basically they follow the routine of season 1 in their 'see the problem, solve the problem' structure - but even though no new territoy is covered, there are still some gems. 'A prefect murder' for instance was, in my view, wonderfully shot. The landscape and inhabitants made up one of the most convincing planets that the crew had ever visited - and there is a very touching romance storyline for the new alien, Sikosu.
Another one to watch is 'Natural Election,' where the lighting and use of the Moya set, give an extremerly claustrophobic feel to proceedings.
'John Quixote' - if a little over the top at times - is definately of interest if only for the fact that it was written by series star Ben Browder - and as for 'I shrink therefore I am' - well, it's the first time that we see the ruling scarans, and there's certainly a makeup artist somewhere that should get an award for that.
Definately worth the watch if you love Farscape, but if you want the best of season 4, look for the later boxsets - they're really something special.

As usual, Farscape remains on of the best Sci Fi TV series out there, and this DVD is no exception. It has what I think are some of the best episodes of season 4 on it; Natural Election, John Quixote, I Shrink Therefore I Am, A Prefect Murder and Coup By Clam. In these episodes, the crew of Moya get shrunken, sucked into a video game world and dress up as women to infiltrate a base. These episodes are guarantied to have you laughing out loud, wondering, confused and amazed as they have the usual Farscape wit and top-notch graphics. The extra features on this disk include deleted scenes, a gallery, character profiles and some Farscape facts. Some of the more interesting features however are an interview with Claudia Black (Aeryn Suun), Farscape swearing (Farscape swear words and what they mean) and commentary. Overall, I think this is one of the best Farscape DVD's to have come out and you will regret not buying it. It is an essential purchase for Farscape fans, and people who are just getting into the series, basically who ever you are you must buy this DVD, and at £19.99 who could resist!!!
