The Very Best of Most Haunted is a mixed bag. It shows brief excerpts from the first series, but taken out of context the snippets look like a bunch of grown-ups running around in the dark scaring each other. However, the hour-long special from Levens Hall is what it's all about: a thorough investigation brimming with activity caught on camera (especially the haunted bedroom). The running order of the DVD is best bits first then the special from Levens Hall, but if you've never seen Most Haunted before, try watching it the other way round and the excerpts at the beginning will make a lot more sense. On the DVD: The Very Best of Most Haunted also offers deleted scenes from the first series, with Derek stumbling to get information from spirit guide Sam; interesting stuff, especially as the broadcast episodes were cut to a mere 30 minutes each. --David Trueman I bought the complete Series 1 boxset and halfway through the series I realised the show was becoming very repetative with not much evidence on paranormal events. This seemed strange given that they had investigated 16 'most haunted' locations in Britain and Ireland. About the only credible evidence the team had found was unexplained lights known as 'orbs' that were caught on night vision cameras. Are these the beginnings of a ghost manifestation? Or a scientific phenomenon not yet explained? I also began to become suspicious of the production crew, who seemed to be constantly seeking to become the centre of attention, claiming that 'things' were touching them; hearing whispering and strange noises, etc - In particular Rick and Karl whos performances deserved Oscar nominations. However, there were a few genuinely spooky moments like the cross moving by itself at Derby Gaol, and the door opening and closing at Levens Hall. I'm still a fan of the programme, it's good trash TV and I'm an open minded person so hopefully the team will find some concrete evidence one day - but I won't hold my breath. If there is any reason to buy Series 1 Boxset, it has to be for Yvette Fielding and Make-up artist Marcella. They get themselves so worked up and scare themselves s**tless it makes for great TV. Marcella's reactions are priceless and funny - just a shame she seems to have been dropped from future series(?) And Yvette's constant belief in whatever Derek says is also warming considering the man is a nutjob who needs locked up. If you have money to waste then buy for the comedy value, but don't expect to be convinced that ghosts exist because you might end up believing the opposite. Like me...

To the initiated there is no need for an explanation, but for those yet to catch the Living TV flagship series here's a brief intro to Most Haunted. Basically they are the admin side of the Ghostbusters: a team consisting of former Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding, historian Richard Felix, paranormal researcher Phil Whyman and, of course, ex-Liverpool footballer-turned-spiritualist medium, Derek Acorah. Together with a film crew they investigate paranormal events at haunted locations in the dead of night, looking for ghostly evidence such as moving furniture, unexplained light anomalies called orbs (the first sign of spirit manifestation) and titbits of information from Derek's spiritual guide Sam.
Most Haunted - Best Comedy DVD

I enjoy watching Most Haunted when it's on Sky TV on the Living Channel, it's fun to watch if you're bored and in the mood to get mildly freaked out - but I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy the dvd's.
Given that no ghosts actually 'manifested' i'd go with the scientific theory.
I am not a scientist, and am not therefore professionally equipped to speak about scientific method. I am however a lawyer and not one of these episodes gets past the most brief application of the critical faculty. The whole thing is interesting (two stars instead of one) because it shows the effect of a combination of, in the case of at least one key character good acting, and the power of suggestion implicit in the title. I am not a sceptic, but am a Fortean, and have an open mind concerning ghosts and the paranormal. There are limits though. James Randi (the man who offers 1 million dollars for objective proof of paranormal activity) won't be checking his insurance policy over this one.
Good for a laugh occasionally. But catch it on the telly. Don't make my mistake of shelling out good money on this.
