Good Movie, OK dvd
Review date: 2004-06-25 Rating: 6 out of 10

If You read the other reviews you know what the movie is about.I guess some scenes were left out sad sad sad.I played the dvd on a Jvc XV-N412S player sold in canada and watched it on a Jvc 27 inch ntsc tv and it looked and sounded Pretty-GOOD considering the age of the show. The 3 stars are for what IS there, If the review was only on the MOVIE I'd give more stars. The missing stars are for what is missing. If you bother to put an old movie on dvd, might as well get with it and put it all on.Make the trailer more than the WARNING don'ts that are standard to all dvds.If you find the Trailer please post it in your review... thank you.As for extras? the plastic wrap it comes in IS THE EXTRA!The advertised trailer must be a EASTER EGG of some kind but I cant find it!

Edited a bit too much.

In order to fit this classic TV Mini Series onto one disc they have had to edit out quite a number of scenes. I noticed this mostly in the final part, featuring Billy Dee Williams, where they have cut at least half an hour from the original. The memorable scene at the prison has been omitted, as have many other moments. I had looked forward to this dvd, but the edits are a disappointment and they spoil the flow of the film. Overall there is probably up to an hour cut from the original length.

If you can live with these edits, then this is a good story which can be watched over and again.

Hail to the Chiefs!

As is often the case when you get older, people get real nostalgic about the things they did, listened to and watched growing up. And whats better to take you back to being a kid then tv-shows and movies? Chiefs was one of those tv-series I remembered watching with my parents when I was younger, and so for several years I tried finding out what the name was of this series. Once I found out it was called Chiefs and starred an excellent cast, among them movielegend Charlton Heston, I desperatly started looking for a DVD edition, and was excited to see that Amazon UK actually had this in store. After watching it I can honestly say that it truly is as good as I remembered it. Chiefs is a story about this small southern town, where a series of murders have been puzzeling three generations of police chiefs for a period of 40 years. The series takes you back to 1924 when the murders started, and when the first "chief" was appointed by local politician Hugh Holmes, played by Charlton Heston. Over the next several years we see two more police chiefs hold office, one of which is played by Brad Davis, better known for his role in Midnight Express, and the final chief, an african american officer (Billy Dee Williams), who ends up solving the murders and bringing this serial killer to justice.
If there's one thing I like about this edition, I would have to say it's the fact that it makes it possible for me to relive the excitement I experienced when I first saw this series on tv back in the eighties. Hollywood DVD however has not put a lot of effort into this DVD, to make this a good release. The quality of the picture for starters is nothing to brag about. It is very dark and seems to have been copied from a rather bad source. The audio could've been much better also. As far as special features go, don't even bother. Besides playing the movie and jumping to a scene, there's nothing more being offered here then a very bad release.
This series initially lasted 6 hours, and it looks like this is the cut version, which sometimes shows up on tv. Sadly enough this only lasts 206 minutes, and skims away most of the middle story featuring the late great Brad Davis.
If you, just like me, really desperatly want to see this series again, and can't wait for a proper version to be released, I would recommend buying this DVD. If not, spend your money more wisely, and just wait for a more deserving edition of what's still considered to be a great series.
