Amazon.co.uk Review

With refreshing intelligence, A Walk to Remember offers welcome relief from the recent onslaught of teen-movie crudeness. Adapted from the novel by Nicholas Sparks and transplanted from 1958 to the present day, this admirable teen romance recognises that two 18-year-olds--Landon (Shane West) and Jamie (pop singer Mandy Moore)--can be smart, mature and sensible about the very real love they share. He's a popular kid in the cool crowd. She's got a goody-goody reputation as the dowdy daughter of a local minister (Peter Coyote); her values and priorities aren't rooted in peer pressure, and Landon feels blessed by her self-assured nobility. Their mutual affection inevitably heads into Love Story territory, but the movie is honest enough to survive its own schmaltz, and its attractive cast (including Daryl Hannah as Landon's mum) embraces a tone of sincerity and mutual respect. Finally, a teen movie with teens you can admire. --Jeff Shannon

Tear-jerking and uplifting!

This is without doubt one of my favourite and saddest films of all time, I saw it at the cinema when it was released and in the toilet afterwards there were several girls all wiping there eyes after watching it. How can you not cry when watching it.
Mandy Moore is wonderful in this film and although she never has much make-up on and has simple hair and clothes, she looks beautiful, my favourite thing about this movie has always been the fact that Landon never tries to change Jamie (when he got her the sweater it was TOO cute!). Of course I don't know if this would be the case in todays society, I doubt it but would like to think so.
The whole film is emotional all building towards a sad ending, but rather than finding it depressing, I found it realy uplifting for Jamie had changed Landon as a person forever so its like she was living on inside him!

I have not seen this film as this dvd ( its one dvd btw not 6 ) is ssoooo expensive! nobody seems to have questioned why it costs ssoo much on amazon, i tried emailing amazon asking why is it soo expensive but they haven't got back to me! However my friend said it was soo good she cried and that is why i wanted to buy this item but i refuse to buy it for £40+ !!! I Suggest you buy it from HMV or Virgin megastores as i believe that this film can be bought for cheeper! i Bet you could find it in a bargain bin somewhere too! im not saying this film is poo because i haven't seen it but i think that when i find it for about £5 i will watch it and adore every minute of it!

A film to remember
Review date: 2007-12-21 Rating: 10 out of 10

I may have watched this film years ago but it is still a film i often come back too as it always makes me feel good. It also never fails to make me cry, tears of both sadness and happiness and while a lot of this is down to Nicholas Sparks both Mandy Moore and Shane West deserve a lot of credit for bringing the characters to life and being able to convey all those emotions. I defy anyone not to feel moved when Moore sings 'Only Hope' in the school performance while Shane's Landon watches in awe.

As for the big twist, that other reviewers are kind enough not to mention so as to ruin it. all i will say is that you will not see it coming and therein lies the catalyst for the tears.

It is wonderful to see a teen movie focusing on real issues and not being too stereotypical, yes we have seen the bad boy/good girl story before but i think at least in this movie the plot that transpires is not as obvious.

I would urge anyone considering it to give it a go. An amazing film.

One of the best films I've ever seen
Review date: 2007-11-11 Rating: 10 out of 10

This film left a lasting impression on me the first time I watched it, and I've watched it repeatedly. I never tire and it becomes more beautiful every time. Although, it's was modified a lot from the book, it's just as good or better. It's not you typical teen movie or love story, it's so much more.

The leads, Mandy Moore and Shane West are perfectly cast, believable characters with depth, that grow as the film progresses. They have real emotions and issues and I think people can relate to that. As well as the love story, there are sub story lines about true friends, religion and family breakdown.

There is such a purity, truth and beauty in this film. It's heartwrenching because you care for Jamie and Landon, you WANT them to be happy and you WANT their love to last forever. Shane West acts superbly, his expressions show his unconditional love for Jamie, his anger, desperation, confusion and hope..

There are so many iconic scenes in this film, but the one that springs to mind is of Jamie singing "Only Hope" in the school play. It's truly inspiring and the song is incredible. In fact, this film has a great soundtrack.

I guarantee anybody who watches this will laugh, cry, and will fall in love with this film.
