There were quite a few Earth-based stories in the year, but not all the new enemies were originally local. Willie Garson comically guest-starred as Martin, a geekily suspicious guy with too much knowledge of the Stargate. More sinister was an old flame of Daniel's turning into something far more painful than an old wound (thanks to an ancient Egyptian curse). Thankfully, the writers hadn't forgotten the importance of one-off storylines too. In "Upgrades" the team learns a lesson in abuse of power. In "The Other Side" (featuring DS9's Rene Auberjonois) they learn about blind trust. In "Scorched Earth" a dangerous claim for a planet's ownership means they learn to value Daniel's contribution to the group dynamic. If only this last lesson were learned better, season 5 might not have ended up as muddled as it did. --Paul Tonks

Amazon.co.uk Review
It wasn't until the beginning of Stargate SG-1's fourth season that fans knew to take the Replicator threat seriously. The spidery nasties had only seemed like one of many new enemies introduced in previous years. But when the one seemingly omnipotent backbone of the galaxy was asking Earth for help, clearly we were in real trouble! In fact, the team's list of enemies expanded and got far more complicated this year. Proving without a shadow of a doubt that this is science fiction, the Russians reveal they have their own Stargate program and ask the Americans for help. This twist allows for exploration of all the political machinations occurring behind the scenes of the SG-C, all of which appear to stem from the embittered Senator Kinsey (Ronny Cox).
And the adventure continues

As the adventure continues sg1 start to have some of the most classic adventures than in any other scfi show in small victories we see how they cope with the replicator threat that started in last seasons cliffhanger nemisis also we have a dab at time travel twice 1st in window of oppertunity in which O'neil and Teal'c find themselves repeating the same day over and over and in the classic 2010 in which it is 2010 and earth is at peace with a race of aliens called the aschen but the treaty does'nt seem to be going as well as it looks in absolute power we continue the story about the harsisus child in which Daniel gets to look at life in a completely different way the episode tangent about an experiment with a new fighter craft that goes awry and exodus in which we start another cliffhanger in which we will see Apothis (Peter Williams)return to cause havoc for sg1 and the torkra yet again.
All in all yet another great season boxset and a must have!
Only one episode I remember which I'm not very please of is that the writers decided to have Share, wife of goody Daniel Jackson, killed by staff weapon again. This time it was Teal'c who pulled the trigger. I believe Teal'c is not that stupid enough to waste so many precious seconds just to prime his staff, standing there doing nothing for a few more seconds and then killed her. Teal'c did this to save Daniel. The episode is Forever in the Day.
If you watched that scene where Daniel is fighting with Share's symbiote inside the tent, you would have seen Teal'c has enough time to both save Daniel and Share; rushing into the tent and beating down Share, giving her some ugly facial surgery. I think this is one of the reasons why the makers of this show decided to have Share killed. I guess showing scenes of women being beaten would offend some sensitive people.
