the crossing
Review date: 2008-02-29 Rating: 6 out of 10

the crossing - my start on understanding the evolution of a new nation.
as a brit watching a film portray the british as the enemy was a little unusual, but in the context of history and accuracy this was right.

I thought jeff daniels was pretty good - i thought the costume and scenery were excellent, the hessians were how i imagined as well for this period.
overall i was happy with the film - my only grumble is that i hungered for a bigger insight into what led up to the start of the film, and the subsequent victory for the american colonies.

personally i like trilogy's so that a lover of history like myself can see the whole picture from start to finnish - overall i liked the film and the actor from aberystwyth {wales} was an very good support actor.

The Crossing is a must own for those interested American Revolution
Review date: 2006-04-13 Rating: 10 out of 10

I am an American who is both a historian and a librarian. This movie is the only one I have ever seen which provides an accurate account of the darkest period in the American Revolution,December 1776. The Crossing consentrates on the last few days before the Christmas and why General George Washington's decision to cross the Delaware river on the night of December 24, 1776 to attack the Hessian mercinaries stationed in Trenton, New Jersey. The script is supurb, fast paced and grips the viewers attention. The actors seemed to have been born to play the characters they portray in this movie. The dialog is historically accurate. The characters portrayed in this movie all played pivotal rolls in the American Revolution and provide a unique insight to the diverse and distinct regional differences between the colonies during the 18th century which were put aside, some times reluctantly, to unite these men in a cause in which they truly believed. Given the graphic detail of battle in the 18th century, I would not recommend this movie for young children. In my opinion, this is a movie that belongs in every ones collection.
