For years I had been asking if anyone remembered a cartoon about a team in bird outfits with a spaceship that turned into a flaming phoenix and the usual response was a look that said, "you're tripping right now, aren't you." However I was to fear not for my sanity. Here it is is, Battle of The Planets. 4 stars may seem a bit much for such poor animation but watching this it is clear the series had some fantastic ideas. However this is a watered down version, as was the one in my childhood. There is the rather forced inclusion of a robot narrator, 7-zark-7 whose job seems to be to point out the screamingly obvious. One thing to look for is the transvestite villain, all pink lipstick and thigh-length boots, whose army of men wearing suits with breast implants will leave you wondering who thought this would make great kids TV. So dodgy animation, anoying R2-D2 clone and an army of transvestites, enough to leave this a four star rating?! Watch with sme beer and friends and be amazed.
