Missing the point!!

I really think a lot of the reveiws here are written by people expecting a gore movie, this isn't one, though the murders are gory. this is an "art" movie, quite literally! the point everyone seems to be missing is the fact that Reno kills the tramps and the wino's because that is what he fears he will become (we kill what we fear), the pressure of no money, the phone being cut off, the rent unpaid and unable to finish his painting. As Kim Newman (respected film critic and writer, particularly horror), Reno is the first psycho in films to be driven mad by his economic situation and as such is unique in horror films.

I know that Driller Killer had a very low budjet but what mant people dont realise is that this film was meant to look cheap and have lots of annoying noises in it to express what a psyco thinks like! And in my opinion this cheapness has given the film a good effect!
As youd expect this film has quiet a lot of blood and gore in it and, as youd expect, all murders are done with the drill!
The Driller Killer was one of the top 5 most controversial films in the video nasty list along with The Texas Chainsa massacre, The Evil Dead, Zombie Flesh Eaters and I Spit on Your Grave! This will probably be a good thing to all those people out there who like Previously Banned and Video Nasty films of the 70s/80s!
The Driller Killer also has to go on my list of coolest titles along with Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Nostril Picker, Tool-Box Murders and Zombie Creeping Flesh! It certanly caught my eye when i went shopping!
The acting in this film is pretty poor but if you like this type of film then you probably wont mind this, and the aweful quality of the DVD! There is a much better version of the Driller Killer on DVD now which is probably the version you will see in most shops!
This is a great film, but as the title of this review sais, ITS ONLY FOR B-MOVIE FANS!!!!!!!!!!

Cheap ripp off...

The storyline has been done numerous times. Examples are taxi driver and straw dogs. However they were done much more effectively then this tripe. Looks like a teenager went out with a cam corder with some mates and a few bottles of fake blood, to see how much gore they could squirt onto the screen.
don't think i dislike gore movies, i don't. i own many including Evil Dead, Braindead and even a few of the itailian ones from the late 70's, but just let me tell you this before you take the advantage of the cheap price tag...this movie is nothing but boring. nothing happens for ages, and when it does happen, it drags on and on and on, the picture quality is grainy and murky, the acting really bad, the plot....none. As for the script, lets just say it's none existent shall we?

So if you're after a decent horror gorefest with over the top splatter and disturbing murder scenes, try Zombie flesh eaters, leave this to...rot.

i bought driller killer after seeing it reviewed as one of the 50 most exteme movies.
its not as bad as people say, yeah so the acting isn't very good, the lighting/visibility on screen is poor but what can be said, it was made in 1979.
the film is about an artist- reno and his attempt to finish his 'masterpiece' to sell to get the money to pay for his bills and rent. he gets gradually more frutrated and turns to killing...
the scene where reno drills a sleeping wino in the head is probably the most graphic along with the shower scene with reno's girlfriend and her lesbian lover.
overall its not terrible, its not scary but it pulls you into the mind of someone about to flip! baby xXx

For Lovers of B - Movies only

I studied movie making at Uni for three years and this was one of the many movies we researched and reviewed. This movie in total honestey is low budget, poorly acted and with a script you'd wonder if the actors ever read it! Must say though this version is far better than the one i watched. The lighting has been improved and the sound is far crisper and the added deleted scenes make me wonder how i managed to review it in the first place!!!

I leave you with this advice. If you love movies and understand the diffilculty in the process then watch and appreciate this film.

If you have never watched a B - Movie and prefer the new version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre to the old, the new dawn of the dead to the now commercial new version or believe Peter Jacksons best piece of work is Lord Of The Rings without having seen Bad Taste then DO NOT WATCH THIS.!
