Oh, you want more? OK. Double wow. Season 4 rocks! Let me illustrate.... The last 11 episodes gets underway with 'If the Shoe Fits;' an amusing interlude that is worth watching just for the performance of Renee O'Connor. Her comic timing is used to perfection, both verbally (check out the psycho-babble) and physically (the sight of her as the village idiot. Priceless...) Otherwise, the story isn't up to much, but who cares? Sit back and enjoy! The foundations of the India arc are laid in 'Paradise Lost,' an interesting episode that looks gorgeous (esp. the yin/yang imagery) up until the point that LL adopts the look of a frenzied rabbit (not joking!). It's most powerful moment comes from a whispered admission from Gabrielle, as she finally reveals the damage that the Hope situation has inflicted. Angst and heartache abound! For the next 3 episodes we are transplanted to India. Of these, 'Between the Lines' is probably the most important in terms of the Xena-Gabrielle dynamic (can you say soulmate?) and also features a great final battle that is painful to watch, especially for fans of the Bard (and her hair!). My fave India Arc ep is the controversial 'The Way,' which appears (as far as I know) in it's original, uncut format. The ending, when the duo finally have a mature conversation about the direction of their lives and their future, is something that's been needed for a long time, and it doesn't disappoint! The rest of the episode? Personally it did not offend my sensibilites, but that's just my opinion. One of those things you have to judge for yourself! The death of a recurring character is the driving force behind 'Endgame.' I find the opening difficult to watch, so be warned! Very good episode, good performances all round, and David Franklin (Brutus) deserves a mention for his efforts in this and 'Ides of March.' (And yes, 'Scapers, that is Braca! Has he cornered the market in duplicitous second-in-commands or WHAT?) And so... on to 'Ides of March.' Wow. Sniff, swallow. Great. And painful. But great. The whole season has been building to this, and boy, has it been worth it! The intimate prison scenes, well, what can I say? Just watch them! And Gabrielle; knew all that non-violence had to be leading up to something, just wasn't quite expecting THAT. Shocking, upsetting, but in terms of what we know of the character, 100% credible. You thought 'Sacrifice II' was big? Check this cliffhanger out! That's the good. The bad is BAD; 'The Play's the Thing' is perhaps the worst Lucy-Lite ep so far (although the part where Minya comes out as a 'thespian' is classic). 'The Convert' annoys me on so many levels it's not even worth discussing. And 'Takes One to Know One' is mediocre at best, only rising above this when Discord appears. But this is the season that Xena came of age, folks. Watch it and remember! And still no extras! Sigh :~( BATTLE ON!
