Ernest is a geniusReview date: 2005-10-01 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a brilliant film. Possibly not as good as Ernest Goes to Camp; but where else are you going to see a guy like Ernest hurtling towards the earth in Santa's sleigh screaming "We're all gonna die!!" Top stuff. Full marks. Three thumbs up....and your point is?Review date: 2003-12-05 Rating: 4 out of 10Oh dear.I went to the cinema to see this movie some years ago (best not to ask) and I can safely say it was the worst film I have ever paid to watch. I recognise there are Varney fans but, really, was there any need for this to be made? With so much decent Christmas celluloid and decent slapstick around, it would be a shame to waste a couple of hours of your life on this poorly-written mess (the only decent gag in the whole thing is the film being trailed within this called Santa's Christmas Slay - "He knows who's been good and bad, and he's got an axe" - now that's something I'd pay to see!)
If you want cool, go buy the 60s animated version of The Grinch. If you need schmaltz in the festive season, go buy Miracle on 34th Street. If you just want good kid's entertainment, go buy Muppet Christmas Carol. Just don't buy this. There is a difference between childish and child-like and Ernest just doesn't get it.
Worth Saving For Every Christmas!Review date: 2000-08-31 Rating: 10 out of 10You are either a fan of Ernest or you aren't. This movie is probably the best in the series and is certainly the one that got me hooked on Mr Ernest P. Worrel and his mis-adventures. The Late Jim Varney does a marvellous job of convincing us that Ernest really is that dumb, but deep down we know that he is capable of something special. In this movie he does just that and with the help of a runaway teenager he somehow manages to dissolve a near disaster into a magical night. Yes he does save Christmas but only just! Like, " Wizard Of Oz ", this film is definetly for the young at heart. Once you get in the spirit your spirits will be lifted time and again! Heres' to you Jim Varney and thank's Pal!
