A worthy follow-up

In the wake of Widows 1, the second installment of this memorable series had a near impossible act to follow. However, Lynda La Plante comes close with this second series. Another awesome performance by Ann Mitchell, the only major disappointment was the absence of the original Bella of the first series. Although the replacement tried her best, I thought this cast a bit of a shadow over the whole of Widows 2. Bella aside, all of the cast from the first series were back, a terrific array of British character actors. If you haven't watched Widows 1 or 2, get it ordered today.

Produced over a year after the successful first series, Widows 2 (or series two) had a very shaky start owing to the death of actress Eva Mottley (Bella) and numerous script changes. However, with such odds against it, the second series still manages to amaze and delight. Car chases, diamond raids and two shock character deaths add to the thrilling climax when Dolly finally comes face to face with cheating husband Harry. With some amazing acting and a script - which despite cuts, edits and rewrites - that sparkles, this is a first rate thriller to beat the likes of anything big budget Hollywood studios can churn out (although they tried with a dire American remake in 2000 starring Brooke Shields!) and is not to be missed...
