Yawn
Review date: 2008-07-13 Rating: 2 out of 10
Far too much is made of this film simply because the main characters in it are lesbian. Rather than simply look at that if you just watch this film as an erotic thriller similar to Basic Instincts then you have a serious case of the yawn factor.
The film simply does not get going, for a suspense thriller you need well, suspense! The characters are just so dull you get the impression even the actresses are bored and are just praying for the director to say "Cut" so then can go home. The film just drifts along at a walking pace and no sorry, just because the main characters are lesbian is not going to convince me the film is any good.
A poor film that if you can sit through to the end you will be probably kicking yourself you just wasted and hour and a bit of your life when you could have been watching paint dry.

truly awfulReview date: 2006-08-06 Rating: 2 out of 10I'm LOATHED to give this 1 star but you can't seem to rate it with zero stars...hmph. Anyway, the lesbian sub-plot of this film if basically just there for titillation, God only knows WHO exactly they were trying to titillate though! It was pretentious, unconvincing, and like the protagonist's sex life, utterly dissatisfying. If you're looking for a film which realistically portrays lesbianism, or even if you're just looking for a crime thriller, please, do NOT buy this film. It's nothing but an arty Basic Instinct, which just goes to show, you can't polish a turd...I watched monkey mask three times!!Review date: 2006-03-29 Rating: 8 out of 10Kelly mcgillis.....what a sexy, classy woman! Like a good bottle of wine, she has increased in flavour. From top gun in 86 to monkey mask in 2006....I preferred the latter.
I thought the movie was cleverly put together, one of those films you think about days afterwards....deep but not depressing. Susie Porter played a soft boyish type....a romatic at heart. Some good sex scenes without going over the top....well worth a watch! Poetic justice. What a yawnReview date: 2005-12-26 Rating: 2 out of 10This does no good service to the genre of lesbian themed films. Slow and unmemorablesave your moneyReview date: 2005-10-09 Rating: 2 out of 10I wasn't expecting too much from this film because like most film in the lesbian catagory it's main selling point is that it has lesbians in it and therefore it seems acceptable to not bother too much with good plots and good actors. This film just about lived up to my poor expectations, the acting wasn't great, the sex scenes were a real turn-off because the characters and excessive body hair weren't that nice to look at and the plot was decidely un-interesting. Buy Tipping the Velvet instead.
