poorly presented

You would think that a tv series as well loved as this would be given a fitting dvd release...but this is Britain & we treat tv and film with disdain for no apparent reason, especially British tv and film. The original ad break titles are predictably clumsily omitted, destroying the rhythm of each episode and the 2 La Frenais/Clement commentaries are appalling...La Frenais sounds utterly disinterested and yawns at least 3 times, Clement is only slightly better. We learn next to nothing about the series, nor the 7 actors...it is a woeful effort & both men ought to be ashamed of their lack of enthusiasm.
If it wasn't for the better sound quality (the pic is only marginally better than VHS) & ease of use dvd affords, I'd advise punters to save their money & stick with their taped off tv video versions...this landmark series deserved better than this bargain basement presentation.

Auf Wiedersehen Pet box set - Wunderbar mateReview date: 2007-06-12 Rating: 10 out of 10Auf Wiedersehen Pet series 1 & 2 - Easy to see why these two series were such massive hits on TV at the time. Later follow on series were OK and testiment to the public appetite for more - but the first two are the best by far.The ONLY versionReview date: 2007-03-23 Rating: 10 out of 10Ignore the uninformed reviewer above, the series 2 episodes included in this set are, so far, the only versions in existance. The original master tapes were not available, therefore they fade out/in whenever the 'end of part one/part two titles would have appeared. They dont spoil your enjoyment of the episodes in any way. They are not mastered from the half hour repeats in the eighties, otherwise all of Oz's swearing would be cut! Carlton went to lot of effort to master these discs, after the apalling vhs editions a few years back. These also include the full scene edited for music copyright, not all present in the vhs editions. Not the original versionReview date: 2005-10-23 Rating: 8 out of 10Great series - just a shame that this DVD version of the 2 series is the cut/shortened one when the series was repeated to make way for extra adverts. This is NOT as it was originally broadcast first time around.
This fact aside, the series is great and is well worth the purchase. I was disappointed when I realised what they had done to it, but it soon passed.
