Good entertainment
Review date: 2008-06-20 Rating: 6 out of 10

This is a pretty good movie if you forget how much better the first one is. It's still fun and worth watching, with some good shootouts. Some of the cast just look like they turned up for a big cheque and to smile next to Eddie Murphy, but still worth looking at.

Worthy Sequel much slated by critics
Review date: 2007-04-23 Rating: 8 out of 10

This film was savaged by critics on its release.Don't really know why because it matches the original and some of the catch lines are even more memorable...'I wasn't always a cop' when Murphy and Judge Reinhold have to break into a suspects house. Also loved the scene where Eddy Murphy cusses a bullying police chief upon knowing that the latter has just been sacked.

Decent throwaway entertainment
Review date: 2006-07-25 Rating: 6 out of 10

Beverly Hills Cop 2 is slicker and funnier than its predecessor, but not quite as charming. Eddie Murphy's ego appears to be a little out of control at times here. This was when he was the most bankable star in Hollywood for a brief time. There are some very funny scenes, but on occasion it looks like Murphy's add libbing has gone a little too far and no one had the nerve to tell him he'd overcooked the joke. It's still slick entertainment though, but it doesn't have the air of realism that the original had. Played more for laughs and explosions it's achieves what it sets out to and for that it's worth 2 hours of anyone's time.

Better than the first one
Review date: 2006-04-26 Rating: 8 out of 10

Not that the first one wasn't good, they are the same kind of movie, good action with Eddy Murphy, which means good laughs too, and they deliver what they promise.
But this one is in my opinion, one of the rare occasions where the sequel was better than the first one, even if slightly!

Decent sequel
Review date: 2004-02-09 Rating: 8 out of 10

Certainly not as good as its predecessor, as a lot of the funniest moments from the former are redone. Really its a film deserving of 3.5 stars, but to give it just 3 stars would be a little harsh.

However, this is not to say that this is not a good movie. I still really enjoy watching it, even if it is slightly formulaic, predictable and sometimes cringe-worthy.

Not really a big fan of Eddie Murphy, but in this trilogy he is very good and is ably assisted by his two side-kicks...

Overall, a decent plot, decent acting and decent action. Not as good as the first one, but few films surpass the originals...
