Touching and enjoyable.. but why can't Kirsten just wear a bra!?
Review date: 2008-11-03 Rating: 8 out of 10

I watched this film for the first time last night hoping for a laid-back, easy-to-watch teen romance.. without much thought required. Let's just say I ended up crying more than once! Strangely this movie actually has emotional depth.. especially from the middle onwards. Kirsten acts very well as a troubled teen and it is convincing.. and Jay is absolutely smoking hot i mean what more could you want! It is thoroughly enjoyable and I would recommend buying it if you are looking for a teen love story that is refreshingly different. The only downside to this movie in my opinion is the fact that in the beginning you actually cant understand how Jay's character can find Kirsten's character attractive. No I'm serious. She actually looks like a complete skank throughout the movie. Constantly greasy hair, no makeup WHATSOEVER and above all.. she NEVER wears a bra! And thats just NOT hot when you're wearing a high necked tshirt.. its bizarre and I have to say rather distracting from what's going on in the scenes. He is WAY out of her league! But their chemistry becomes more believable as the movie plays out. All in all I would recommend it!

Great film

The other reviews here say it all.

For me Kirsten Dunst plays a blinding role in this. I rate her anyway but the scene in this film that touched me the most, was a scene where she arrives on the driveway and really has it out with her manipulative father. The emotion and the heart-felt performance of Kirsten in this scene for me was the best I'd ever seen her.

Loved it.

Has it all!

I never got the chance to watch this movie in the cinema, but for no reason I had to buy it. I didn't know anything about this movie, but I just had to buy it. I am glad I did, as this turned out to be one of the most crazy and beautiful movies I have ever seen. You expect the standard teenage high school movie, but you get something so different from that.

"You can be anywhere when your life begins..." For Nicole (Kirsten Dunst) that is at 17 years old, when she meets Carlos Nunez (Jay Hernandez) for the first time. Nicole is picking up litter at the beach and Carlos is there with his friends. They meet because one of Carlos' friends is a bit cheeky. Carlos' friends are no real actors, they know all about poverty and that is the reason why they have been picked for the movie, to give it more credibility. Carlos and Nicole find out they go to the same school: Pacific high. This is how the story starts...

Nicole and Carlos spend more and more time with eachother and slowly start to feel more for one another. Carlos is studying to become a pilot one day at Annapolis, while Nicole doesn't know what she wants to become. Nicole is a troubled young girl. Her mother commited suicide when she was 12, but this is not what she tells Carlos. Carlos finds out about the truth through Nicole's father. Nicole her father is a delegate and is willing to get Carlos to Annapolis, as long as he stays away from his daughter. Nicole is the type of girl that messes things up for everyone around her. I must say that Nicole's stepmother is not making things easier.
Carlos is not willing to give her up and runs off with her. A smart move, as it turns out in the end. He guides Nicole in the right direction, but she makes the final choice herself.

A beautiful movie about so many feelings. Friendship, happiness, sadness, love, anger, confusion... Kirsten Dunst has put down a great performance, truly touching. I didn't know anything about Jay Hernandez, until I had seen this movie. I must say he left a great impression! Kirsten and Jay have a great chemistry on screen! It is a movie that has everything and truly is one to watch...

The part of the movie that made it special for me is where Nicole makes her bedroom Carlos-proof!

Enjoy the movie, it is worth it!

Not at all what I thought it would be. I was expecting to watch a typical wholesome teen movie - all very sweet and innocent. What I got was a gritty, hard-hitting, beautifully shot movie which shows a very realistic mixed race couple facing adversity. Kirsten Dunst shines in this movie as does Jay Hernandez. Crazy/Beautiful deals with depression, racism, the rich/poor divide, relationships among other things. Definately not your average teen movie - it's so much better!
