A suprise.....

I didnt exactly have any high hopes when I started watching this. In fact I thought it was a childrens movie and the only reason I wanted to see it was because Sarah Lancashire is in it and shes according to me one of the best actresses ever.
Now I've never read the book so I cant speak for it BUT this is no childrens movie. Not that young people cant watch it I just think you have to be a little older to apperciate it.
This movie is about england after World War Two,or at least in the end of it. Its about how hard it was for the children to come back home when they'd been living in America for years and for the men coming back to their wifes who had changed some...
The family in this story decided to ship their daughter of to the States when she was 9 years old. Shes now coming home to a mother she doesnt really know and to a little brother shes never seen. Not only does she feel left out she also feels more american than english and she talkes of her american family as home which doesnt help her in the relationship with her mother much....
It gets more intresting when the father gets back. His wife Peggy played brilliand by Sarah Lancashire has worked, taken care of the house, made new friends and learnt new things since the husband left and he cant really take that. Decpide of the war you get a feeling that Peggy's been happy and kinda found herself and just when she has learnt how to be by herself her husband gets back and he has of course changed to...
I want tell you more cus that destroyes the movie but I loved this drama! It was well played and intresting and it made me think. I really recommend it to anyone looking for a story that stayes with you after you've seen it.

Hmmm

Interesting piece of drama. well acted and at times heartbreaking, especially seeing relationships form and break and form again. good piece of wartime drama if anything. one criticism however: Back Home never seems to know its audience. Children and teens it could be aimed at yes, as there's a lot that they can relate to. But for adults, at whom this is also aimed at, being broadcast after the kiddies' watershed time, may find the children's story irratating and flat. However, well acted, directed and well scripted. Worth a look.
