I would give him 5 stars for this effort if I weren't afraid of offending astute and schooled "music critics" (blame that insecurity on me, not Hall).

This has got to be one of the most hilarious, creative, and original comedic efforts attempted by a name-brand comic in years ... a breath of fresh air. Added attraction stems from the fact that the artist possesses a definite inherent musical aptitude for blues timing and genre in the finest sense of the tradition.

Simply put, I love it! And that goes for my musician and non-musician friends alike who have reviewed Hall's efforts under this personna.

Fantastic Album

I'd like to review this album as not only being a brillant album for it's comedic value but for it's musical appeal. Rich Hall as his jailbird "Uncle" Otis Lee Crenshaw should be applauded for his exteremely funny lyrics which make me laugh every time I listen and also for his talent for writing music.

It is in this department that I feel Otis's band The Black Liars should get a special mention. A very talented bunch of guys and, having seen them live, they have their own particular style of comedy as well. Catherine Porter, a wonderful singer in her own right, also adds to this CD.

This album is great to listen to. Otis's rough voice, hilarious lyrics and brillant music make this a must listen to album.

Too good for a comedian

The market is currently swamped with 'novelty' music which becomes unlistenable after a couple of plays (You know who you are Simpsons and South Park) but this CD proves to be an exception which can stand the test of time. Not only does Rich Hall write witty and incisive lyrics, he backs it up by putting it alongside proper music that could easily be dropped onto a serious artists album. Despite all tracks being strong, for highlights look no further than the whistle along Women Call It Stalking or the sombre He Almost Looks Like You, the latter being a beautiful ballad about prison rape. All the wannabe pop stars or current country music persons should hang their heads in shame as Otis Lee makes it seem all to easy.
