Good credentials abound in this 1970 adaptation of Bill Manoff's hit Broadway comedy. Buck Henry wrote the screenplay, and Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) directs the surprisingly funny pairing of Barbra Streisand and George Segal as, respectively, a semi-literate prostitute and an egghead. Streisand and Segal turn out to have excellent complementary styles (both are good at playing incredulity), and while the film is not always as witty as it could be, scenes are crisp and highly entertaining. --Tom Keogh
Fast talking screwball comedy

Pairing up Segal and Streisand was a good move in this story about a hooker that falls in love with a writer. I like the period detail, the scruffy apartments, the bohemian characters. Streisand sounds shrill and strident at times, so much so that I almost couldn't stand it, but you get used to it. She certainly plays the 'dumb blonde' to perfection. Segal is the ideal fall guy for Streisand's venom and spirit. It's very much a movie of its time, but I liked that, even if I didn't entirely buy the ending, and would've liked a bit more subtlety.
Nothing to mention about the DVD transfer really. YOu just get the film. I didn't notice the picture quality so it must've been okay.

Laugh out loud at the sheer wierdnessReview date: 2003-10-29 Rating: 10 out of 10After Funny Girl and other comedies performed by Barbra Streisand, i had only high hopes for this film. And i wasn't dissapointed, George Segal and Barbra play a completely unlikely pair and i found it hilarious, for a feel good yet also very strange film with excellent acting, look no further. Even though the plot is often very far-out and perhaps a little unrealistic, it doesn't make any difference, it's a laugh. And I love this film because, unlike many modern comedies there's still character development and these characters seem buyable with proper emotions. One funny film, and not a chick flick!
