Jan Morrow (Doris Day) and Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) have never met, but they are sworn enemies because of one small appliance in their lives: the telephone. The two share a party line, and Jan is outraged over the amount of time Bill spends wooing women over the phone. A convenient triangle emerges when a client (Tony Randall) of Jan's--she's an interior decorator--falls in love with her and happens to be Brad's old college chum. When Brad makes the connection, he decides to try to court Jan himself, to make her more sympathetic to his phone woes. Of course, she'd never go for such a heel, so he passes himself off as Rex Stetson, a Texas rancher visiting New York. The ensuing tale, albeit predictable, is lots of fun, with some quick-witted dialogue and some clever use of split-screens for the phone calls. Thelma Ritter is hilarious as Jan's always-hung-over maid, Alma; and the pairing of Rock and Doris works beautifully, as always. --Jenny Brown

OK - in a nutshell Rock and DD have never met but they share a phone line - he's always hogging it singing the same schmoozy song to a variety of women and the pair dislike each other UNTIL Rock sees her in a bar one night and finds out who she is and decides she's the woman for him - he knows he'll get nowhere if she finds out who he is so he pretends to be a naive homesick Texan and starts dating her. You see this is the way to win a woman!!! Fantastic!!. Rock Hudson is button meltingly gorgeous, DD's wardrobe is fab, it's bright, its cheery, its colourful, the songs are just cheese on a stick - how can you not like a song with the words Yah Yah roly Poly - Just great!

Doris Day doing what she does bestReview date: 2004-01-13 Rating: 10 out of 10A very funny Doris Day musical that can be enjoyed over and over again. Against the tall, rugged, handsome Rock Hudson, Ms Day plays a strong independent single woman who is fed up with sharing a telephone line with him and listening to the endless drivel that he feeds his women. But it's only when Hudson takes on a alternate identity in order to seduce Ms Day that the true fun starts. The film is well acted with Day somehow still managing to sing a couple of times. It's a film that is fun it does not take itself too seriously. To critically analyse it would be fruitless. It is a timeless classic which is easy to watch and perfect for a girlie night it!
Fun & LoveReview date: 2003-06-20 Rating: 8 out of 10Doris Day is the hard working single girl trying to make a phone call on her party line - Rock Hudson is the music writing playboy hogging the party line with phone calls off of his many girl friends. A chance meeting with Day shows him what the other end of his party line looks like - he approves and there starts a web of fun and deception and he plays a texan visiting New York. Day is great in this role as the single girl looking for love, and Hudson is perfect as the obnoxious guy she knows on the other end of the party line and the perfect gentleman he pretends to be. The music is great and the pace of the movie is all about Fun. Tony Randall is great as Hudsons best friend."You’re my inspiration..."Review date: 2003-04-06 Rating: 10 out of 10Jan Morrow (Doris Day) is an interior decorator that relies on her telephone for business. Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) is a songwriter who relies on his telephone for monkey business. Turns out that they both share the same party line. Yep you saw it coming. Unknown to either of them Tony Randall (Rock Hudson’s employer), is as close to love with Doris day as he was with his previous wives. Putting two and two together, rock Hudson realizes that his party line antagonist is a blonde cutie.Knowing that he does not have a chance with her if he reveals his true identity, he takes on taxes persona (Rex Stetson.) Will this work? Will Tony Randall find out? Better still will Doris day find out the truth? Will decorating sense prevail? This could get ugly.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!Review date: 2001-10-10 Rating: 10 out of 10I never get tired of watching this one, Doris plays Jan Morrow, a successful career girl who shares a party line with the playboy musician Brad Allen (gorgeous Rock Hudson). She, of course, starts out hating him and his womanising ways, but she eventually succumbs to his charm. The tricks he uses to win her over are really hilarious. If you have never seen any Doris Day/Rock Hudson films before, definately start with this one! You'll want to see them all.
