Amazon.co.uk Review

With the advent of satellite broadcasting resurrecting the art of the TV movie, films like the invigorating The Boondock Saints are becoming more frequent. Made for Sky, the movie eschews big-screen production values but is still good value for money. Although the story of two Irish-American brothers who set out on a believed divine mission to wipe out the worst of the criminal element of Boston at times seems like an imitation of the superb Dogma, both films were actually made in the same year. The film is not without its faults, notably the poor performances of Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as the two brothers--both of whom adopt ludicrous Irish accents. Far better is Willem Dafoe, who steals the show as FBI agent Smecker, and the manic David Della Rocco. Still, The Boondock Saints is highly watchable and keeps the viewer interested throughout with a strong story, frequent black humour and arresting visuals. And there aren't many places where you will come across Billy Connolly as a Mafia contract killer. --Phil Udell

Classic film

like someone else wrote it's like an American Guy Ritchie film, or like an american version of Twin Town. Two brothers getting revenge. funny, cool and raises good questions.
well worth a watch

An American Classic
Review date: 2008-06-24 Rating: 10 out of 10

I am rather shocked by the negative feelings this movie generates. Sure there is plenty of violence and swearing, but it's all in good fun. All too often I am disappointed in movies that come from my home country but this one revived my faith in American cinema. Maybe the bad comments about this movie reflect a lack of understanding of American humor. However, bad reviews aside, The Boondock Saints is an American classic. I saw this movie in high school and it has been a favorite ever since. Everyone I know loves this movie and can quote all the best lines. The accents may be terrible (I can't really comment on the Irish accents) but overall the acting is good, especially Willem Dafoe as a sketchy FBI agent who eventually teams up with the brothers on their quest to purge the mean streets of Boston of crime. If you watch no other American action movie, watch the Boondock Saints.

Good watch

I've read some pretty bad things about this film but i thought i'd try it anyway.

Once you get over some of the obvious problems it is a great film.
There's a few actors in the film that got on my nerves a little bit which is why i have given it 4 stars. Its mainly the italian characters (the boss and delivery boy) who were a bit over the top and had dodgy accents.

However the plot is pretty good and i like the way it shows an aftermath and then the actual event. Directors who do out of the ordinary things in this way are always good in my book as it provides an interesting insight.

Dafoe is strange in the film, at first you think bad acting but then you realise it is actually the character he is portraying.

I've never really seen a film like this before. There is no love story like in pretty much every other film going. I think this is partly why people slate the film as its a little different.

I just rented it and i'm definately going to buy it.

one day you will turn around, and you will see we three

i dont know whats with all the slander of this film.
a friend brought it round to mine one day originally it was slightly off putting being as we'd lost the dvd remote so had to sit through the film with german subtitles....however i loved it....and within about 2 weeks of first seeing it, all the friends i had round that night that saw the film went out and brought it, myself included...thats 4 people who all thought the film was brilliant...shortly after i showed my uncle...who once again...loved it

now i know your thinking what has this to do with the film your friend prob all like the same kind of films....we dont for the record...yet my girlfriend also loves the film.

i find it hard to belive how much people seem to slander this film off. its hard hitting and yet funny in places!
its a low budget film yet it makes up for it so much!

anybody can read a review....just watch it yourself and see.

Vigilante masterpiece
Review date: 2007-09-12 Rating: 10 out of 10

An amazing film that many well known websites and critics have slated for poor acting, a sketchy plot and being overly violent among other criticisms. However, if you like shoot'em ups, gangster-esque characters and a pacy plot then this is a film for you!

There is no romance, and it is overly violent...which makes it a great and an addictive film to watch. Based around two Irish brothers, this film follows there rise to fame in vigilantism with a twist of religion, with an enigmatic detective on their tail. Great editing makes this film flow quick, and the viewer glued to their seat.

Amazing performance from Willem Defoe as the detective, and although their irish accents are a bit sketchy the two actors that play the brothers are truly believable, and very likeable.

Boondock Saints is similar, though different in its own way, to films like pulp fiction, lock stock and two smoking barrels, and go.....so if you like these fast paced interchanging scenes with gangsterisms and shoot outs thrown in to the mix then watch this movie!

A cult classic for those who don't fall for that hollywoody morality based cack of films.
