Utter drivel!!!!!!!!!!!
Review date: 2008-11-04 Rating: 2 out of 10
I bought this film since having studied the battle of anzio thought it may be a good and practically the only film on the Italian campaign in WW2. However the battles are so 1960's cliche rubbish, the germans never had magazine top-loading machine guns, such as the bren. The sniper scene seems to have been done with cheap air rifles and the script is so so poor: "I'm right here german" says robert mitchum, who is cast as a useless war correspondant whoi ends up fighting off the whole siege of anzio with him and a squad of a few dispondant GI's
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS FILM IT ISN'T EVEN A CHEAP THRILL!!!!!!!!!!

Anzio - you must be joking!Review date: 2008-05-06 Rating: 2 out of 10Don't even think about wasting your money on this pathetic offering. As one who takes war films very seriously, I cannot believe that Robert Mitchum actually agreed to be a part of this sad and pathetic offering!!!A good way to spend two hours.Review date: 2007-06-29 Rating: 8 out of 10Anzio is a good attempt to explain the mistakes which made this forgotten battle so bloody. Although by no means a classic it is enjoyable and does contain a few quite memorable lines especially towards the end. Robert Mitchum essentiallly plays a similar character to many in his other films but this is by no means a criticism. All in all a good way to spend an afternoon.a plain DVDReview date: 2006-03-22 Rating: 6 out of 10The film quality is good, but the DVD is pretty plain, without any added features apart from the film itself, which is what we normally expect from DVD release.AnzioReview date: 2003-03-30 Rating: 10 out of 10Robert Mitchum stars as an American news correspondent, covering the landing at Anzio, in 1944. Waiting for the troops, the Germans are dug in, with heavily fortified defenses. Follow a band of men, stranded behind enemy lines, fighting desperatley to warn the troops landing about the hidden German trap. This film shows scenes of glorious heroism and hideous carnage, proving Anzio to be one of the most decisive and fierce campaigns of World War 2.
This powerful and electrifying war drama is guaranteed thrills a minute entertainment.
One of my favourite films of my collection.
Not exactly a Saving Private Ryan, but if you like War Classics, this one is for you.
