Amazon.co.uk Review

Family Guy shouldn't work at all. Even by the witless standards of modern television, it is breathtakingly derivative: does an animated series about the travails of a boorish, suburban yob with a saintly wife, a hopeless son, a clever daughter and a baby sound familiar at all? Even the house in Family Guy looks like it was built by the same architects who sketched the residence of The Simpsons.

However, Family Guy does work, transcending its (occasionally annoyingly) obvious influences with reliably crisp writing and the glorious sight gags contained in the surreal flashbacks which punctuate the episodes. Most importantly, the show's brilliance comes from two absolutely superb characters: Stewie, the baby whose extravagant dreams of tyrannising the world are perpetually thwarted by the prosaic limitations of infanthood, and the urbane family dog Brian--Snoopy after attendance at an obedience class run by Frank Sinatra. Family Guy does not possess the cultural or satirical depth of The Simpsons--very little art in any field does. But it is a genuinely funny and clever programme. --Andrew Mueller

Synopsis

The first season of the prematurely-cancelled animated sitcom FAMILY GUY is collected on this parody-packed release. Witness the Griffin family in all of their goofiness, as little Stewie continues his quest for world domination, Brian (the dog) downs martinis, and the rest of the family tries not to look too stupid. The series features the voices of creator Seth MacFarlane, MAD TV's Alex Borstein, THAT '70S SHOW's Mila Kunis, and BUFFY's Seth Green.

Hilarious!!!!!!
Review date: 2008-08-06 Rating: 10 out of 10

Even though this DVD is quite old, it has some of the best Family Guy episodes. The content on the DVD really shows how Family Guy became so popular. Each episode will make you laugh out loud even if your in the worst of moods 10/10.

Get In The House Fatty!!!
Review date: 2008-07-17 Rating: 8 out of 10

i am sick of people comparing family guy to the simpsons. family guy stretches so many more limits and is a lot more unpredictable, making the resulting jokes so much funnier. (also, in the simpsons its like some characters aren't even there to be funny. marge for instance. i hate marge!) i recommend season 4 (family guy) as the best. my only criticism however, is that by season 7 the jokes are starting to become slightly thin and more predictable, and the plots are becoming a lot more insane. Brian.....with a human son. rightttttttttt. but trust me on this, seasons 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 are brilliant.

Brilliant first season.

When family guy was original. This season is brilliant funny and different all the characters are funny, the episodes are funny. Best characters for me are brian and peter, stewie is funny, and i thinks it's hilarious the way they neglect meg thats funny. Great show until it got boring unfunny and annoying. I still need to check out season six but season 5 & 4 were good but it was just the same. So good buy if you want to buy a season.
