Wonderful Wingspan
Review date: 2004-03-08 Rating: 10 out of 10
I love this DVD, and if you watch the whole interview you see a detailed and fascinating insight, year by year, into the changing lineup of Wings and Paul and Linda's personal life. The only thing I feel it lacked was a few songs played all the way through, or some music videos, although it is peppered with Paul doing some impromptu songs and explainging the story behind them lke Mrs Vandebilt and Picasso's last words...there is also a gathering of snippets in the extra features section. There are 3 songs on there, like out-takes, and you'll have to buy it to find out....oh and wait til you find out who is giving the interview!.....

WingspanReview date: 2003-06-12 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a really nice DVD with Paul giving us some insight for the first time on what was going on from his point of view when the Beatles split up in 1970 and his reasons for leaving the band. This DVD contains some really nice rare film clips of his career with his band Wings from their conception in 1971 to their disbandment in 1979.
Paul reveals a great deal about his life with his first wife Linda and rightfully gives her credit for what he and her achieved together with Wings.
This DVD goes very well together with John Lennon's "Gimme some Truth" as you get a pretty good idea of the different directions Lennon and McCartney were heading in when the Beatles sadly ceased to be.
Good idea, but where are the others?Review date: 2003-04-06 Rating: 8 out of 10A good visual documentary on a very under-rated band. I find the insights from Paul to be fascinating, but only give it four stars since it would have been nice to have seen Denny Laine take a part in the programme at least! The footage is first rate, and it goes to show how good they really were. It shows all of their great songs, including Silly Love Songs, Goodnight Tonight, Let 'em In, etc.
I know to some people out there that Wings was just Paul McCartney's backing band, but let's not forget that others took a part in it, especially Denny Laine, since he is the only person other that the two McCartney's to remain from day one until the very end, and beyond. He wrote or co-wrote some excellent songs throughout their discography.
To finish then (and probably be hunted down and killed in the process), an excellent documentary, though one-sided!
A great reminder of a great bandReview date: 2002-03-30 Rating: 10 out of 10Not long ago, Wings were not a trendy band. Yet watching this and listening to the music reminds you that they produced some fantastic music that deserves to be heard again and again. A tight band, despite its many incarnations.
Funny how when you go to a 70s night you hear everything except Wings? A crying shame.A Must Have for Fans of PaulReview date: 2001-12-29 Rating: 10 out of 10A very informative video with lots of good footage and music. It was interesting to see Paul's daughter, Mary, interviewing her dad, which added a certain personal element to the programme. It was done in chronological order and started with the breakup of the Beatles and Paul and Linda's wedding. The video details the 10 years of Wings, while also showing many home videos of Paul's family life.
