Coupling is a witty, instantly addictive series that charts the tangled sex lives of a close-knit group comprising "exes and best friends": womaniser Jack, hapless nice guy Steve, "strange and disturbing" Jeff, uninhibited Susan, neurotic Sally and manipulative Jane. The obvious frame of reference is Friends (Steve and Susan are the Ross and Rachel equivalent), but this series also echoes Seinfeld in its coinage of catchphrases and plot lines (in episode one, Steve tries to dump Jane, who refuses to accept). But it's no mere British clone of US sitcoms: Coupling has its own fresh and provocative take on relationships. This has got to be my most loved sitcom of all time. The jokes never get old. My best mate and I refer back to this series so many times in relation to real life or just for giggles. If you've never seen it watch it and if you don't own it buy it. Nothing else compares.

The English Friends? Way better!!!

I remember when the series launched on the Beeb with many comparisons made to Friends. Yes, it is about 3 men and 3 women, but there the similarity ends. For starters, every episode is FUNNY!! I've never bought a dvd of a tv series before, but this has been played to death. It is so perceptive of male and female insecurities (the sock moment, women's bottoms having a growth cycle of their own ...), the different ways men and women can perceive the same event, in fact the different ways different people can perceive the same event. Steve trying to wriggle out of his porn viewing habits by describing Lesbian Spank Inferno as a liberating tale of a female film collective makes me weep with laughter, even on the umpteenth viewing. Series 2 to 4 will soon be coming to a dvd player very near me!

As the title says, coupling is just the funniest thing to hit the screen ever. This does not exclude movies, books or anything...
The show is just hilarious and I can not comprehend why it did not make it into the top ten of british tv-comedy (instead it floated around rank 60 or so).
I am not even from britain, but the coupling's humour goes unchallenged.
Just don't watch that american remake...

This is one of the funniest serials around there and incredibly well written. I would recommed that you get all 4 seasons -- I have -- you won't regret it. It's got a wicked, wacky sense of humour and the plots are superbly rounded and tied in together. All in all, a serial that's got layers and is hilarious too!
