The Complete Clangers is an unmissable double-DVD set containing all 26 episodes of this classic television series. Devised by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, whose other credits include such masterpieces as Ivor the Engine and Bagpuss, the programmes detail life on the small blue planet, somewhere out in space, that is home to these long-nosed, gentle, pink creatures with their distinctive whistling language. Life is simple when you're a Clanger; with plentiful green soup and blue-string pudding to eat, the main worry is being hit by objects from space. Fortunately, Clangers have armour to protect their little knitted bodies and live in caves within the planet enclosed by metal lids--the slamming of which gives them their name. A peaceful race, the Clangers live in harmony with the other inhabitants of their world--the Soup Dragon, the Froglets, several Glow Buzzers and the Iron chicken--as well as any other visitors who may drop by.

When you're sitting comfortably, prepare to wallow in nostalgia with these timeless tales or introduce them to a new generation--neither of you will be disappointed. --Helen Baker

They're back!!

My heros, the Clangers! I used to watch these little darlings as a teenager in the 70's, and my mother would always complain that I was watching a programme for kids! 'What?' I would reply, 'But this is an alien life form that communicates by whistles. Highly intelligent. In fact more intelligent than anything I have seen on the television today, including the news!' Top marks. I loved this series. A real classic that can be watched and enjoyed by all.

Anyone of my generation (baby boomers)should remember these little darlings. The Soup Dragon, The Iron Chicken & Blue String soup, all as charming as ever.

It's the clangers

For those who have never seen the Clangers during the 1970's then you should be in for a treat. It is great fun that the kids will love watching. They speak with whistles and they have an interpreter who lets you know what is happening.
You will meet all the Clangers, The Soup Dragon and the Metal Chicken along the way.
The DVD is put into two series or you can watch the whole lot at once.
Basicly things fall to the Clangers planet or orbit it for every one to talk about with the excepting of the man from Earth whom they hide from. You get an introduction to all the characters and see how they interact and after a while you get used to their emotions.
Great DVD that the kids will love for ever.

woo-ooo, ooo-ooo-ooo-oooooo

I loved this when I saw them as a child and now as a 41 year old I can still watch them with interest that is more than just nostalgia. The wonderful measured narration and fantastic music add to the unwordly stop motion animation and lead to something that is more than the sum of its parts. At this bargain price you should grab a copy, and maybe one to try and convert a new generation to the charm of the little aliens! Don't blame me if you start to communicate by whistling.

Can still attract the kiddies today

The Clangers were created by SmallFilms (Oliver Postgate - words, and Peter Firmin - illustrations), who were also responsible for the Children's TV classics Noggin the Nog, Bagpuss and Ivor the Steam Engine. Although The Clangers are little more than stop-motion jerky pink socks, there is something about their simple life that still attracts. It was 'different' way back then and it's still 'different' today. My son sat glued to all the episodes in one sitting - although my Daughter much prefers The Herbs. Living on their small moon, these Clangers space stories have enough humour to keep adults engaged (but probably at the traditional rate of a few episodes a day). I particularly like the episodes when the humans appear in their spacecraft, and are even more gormless than baby Clanger.

For a few pounds this DVD set is certainly worth buying as everyone should own at least one Oliver Postgate classic - although my childhood SmallFilms favourite was the older 'Noggin the Nog', now also available via the Dragons Friendly Society. In fact The Clangers were derived from a Noggin the Nog book, 'Noggin and the Moon Mouse'. But there is no denying The Clangers have become a childhood TV icon. So rent or buy The [complete] Clangers now! Be warned though, it's a slippery slope with the Clangers today, and Rhoobarb & Custard, and Bagpuss the next.
