Randy Newman's opening song, "A Fool in Love", perfectly sets up the scenario of Meet the Parents: "Show me a man who is gentle and kind and I'll show you a loser". Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) is the fool in love. Just as he's about to propose to his girlfriend Pam (Teri Polo), he learns that her sister's fiancé asked their father, Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), for permission to marry. Now he feels the need to do the same thing. When Greg meets Jack, he is so desperate to be liked that he makes up stories and feebly attempts to ingratiate himself with his prospective father-in-law rather than having the courage of his convictions. It doesn't take an elite member of the CIA to see right through Greg, but unfortunately that's precisely what Jack is. Directed by Jay Roach (the Austin Powers films), Meet the Parents is a well-crafted comedy that makes for a pleasant contrast to the sloppy excesses of the Farrelly brothers. Stiller is great at playing up the uncomfortable comedy of errors, balancing just the right amount of selfishness and self-deprecating humour, while De Niro's excels as the intimidating father. Blythe Danner as his wife, the Gracie to De Niro's George Burns, is the true heart of the film and Owen Wilson turns in yet another terrific comic performance as Pam's ex-fiancé. --Andy Spletzer, Amazon.com
there are some hilarious moments in this film
Review date: 2008-05-23 Rating: 6 out of 10
There are some hilarious moments in this film which a lot of people will be able to relate to - the anxiety that stems from meeting their girlfriend's parents for the first time. The story goes along at a gentle pace and if you're expecting the kind of heavy-handed gangster type action from Robert de Niro that often accompanies him in a film, you'll be disappointed. Here he plays a woman's father who is suspicious of her boyfriend and very protective and possessive of his child, but who can nevertheless be reasoned with - eventually! Ben Stiller puts in a fine performance as the nervous and accident prone boyfriend of de Niro's daughter.

HilariousReview date: 2007-11-04 Rating: 8 out of 10This is a great movie, and I couldn't stop laughing during it, it was hilarious most of the way through. It also had some good romantic, and dramatic moments aswell. This movie is basically where you go if you want some great entertainment.
Acting: The acting in this movie is great, it helps that it has a star filled cast including such great actors as Robert De Niro, and Ben Stiller, aswell as a lot of other familiar faces.
The Plot: This movie has a very simple plot, but it is really great. It basically goes like this, Greg Focker is going to propose to his girlfriend, but decides it would be best to ask her parent's ( who he's never met ) permission first. He comes to their house and things start going wrong straight away, but things keep on getting worse and worse.
I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes comedy movies, you will not be dissapointed. Why you shouldn't visit the in-lawsReview date: 2007-10-07 Rating: 8 out of 10Greg Focker is completely in love with Pam Byrnes and plans to use the trip to her parents' house on Long Island to ask her to marry him. Once Greg is introduced to Pam's parents, however, things stampede steadily downhill. Pam's father Jack takes an instant and obvious dislike to his daughter's boyfriend, making fun of his job as a nurse and generally making Greg painfully aware of the differences between him and Pam's family. Where Greg is relatively unambitious, and Jewish, Pam comes from a long line of well-mannered, blue-blooded WASPs. Things go from bad to worse, with Greg incurring the wrath of both Pam's father, who worked for the CIA for 34 years, and the rest of her family, and almost single-handedly destroying their house and the wedding of Pam's sister. Do you remember when you had to meet your fiancé's parents?Review date: 2007-04-29 Rating: 10 out of 10Do you remember when you had to meet your fiancé's parents? (If you are a guy, you probably will identify with this movie more.) Do you remember when you made a fool of yourself? Do you remember popping open a wine bottle and shattering an antique that held the remains of your father-to-be's cremated mother? Well, okay, maybe you never did something that embarrassing and shameful (I'd sure hope not), but the main character from "Meet the Parents," Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) did, and that is only one of the howlingly funny things about this laugh-a-minute comedy from the director of "Austin Powers," Jay Roach.FunnyReview date: 2006-01-06 Rating: 10 out of 10Would recommend this one, it is funny, in a stupid accidental way. Worth buying, would get this before watching "Meet the Falkers" so that the continuity is kept in place.
