Young and conquering soul
Review date: 2008-05-20 Rating: 10 out of 10
Young Cassius Clay, young Muhammad Ali before he became Muhammad Ali, when he meets Malcolm X and turns to the Nation of Islam but not yet changing his identity to that of his nascent faith. Only the story of the young man who builds his own self, his own provocation, his character, his personal stand in front of the world and decides to conquer a world champion title by going out and provoking the one who has the title under his hat, under his name, and to steal it from him between the ropes of a good old fighting ring. Yet it is not the film we would dream of, the film of the rebel, of the one who refuses to follow the steps of the imperialistic USA. But it is a nice film because this young man is attractive, even maybe fascinating. But the dream he has only gets started when the film comes to a close. We would have liked to get more.

Best avoidedReview date: 2005-01-18 Rating: 2 out of 10I have watched a lot of Ali footage, in fact virtually all the documentaries and films produced. This representation is a shambolic attempt to replicate the film Ali himself starred in (The Greatest, directed by Tom Gries in 1977). The lead actor looks like a chubby welterweight and is frankly embarrassing to watch.
The biopic 'Ali' with Will Smith was for me, very disappointing with much of the dialogue muffled and indiscernible but was at least a professional and fairly accurate representation.
The price of this DVD is a reflection of its quality.
Two DVDs worth getting are 'aka Cassius Clay' which deals expertly with a period of Ali's youth in detail and shows his quite incredible wit and dazzling skills as he was starting to reach his peak ( though this was never reached due to the incredible sacrifice and stand he took against war and injustice) and 'Muhammad Ali-through the eyes of the world'.King Of The WorldReview date: 2001-07-26 Rating: 10 out of 10I thoroughly enjoyed this film and found it inspirational. Terrence Dashon Howard fits the role of Cassius Clay (aka- Muhammed Ali) perfectly and shows excellent acting skills. "King Of The World" was based on Cassius Clay and his rise to becoming a boxing heavyweight champion and one of the best ever sportsmen. This film also showed what black people in USA had to deal with, and Terrence Dashon Howard expertly acted out the part with feeling and made the whole film a lot more enjoyable.
