Amazon.co.uk Review

The glowering brutality that is aikido head-banger Steven Seagal's substitute for a star persona at least gives us a rancid taste of authenticity in Marked for Death, a cookie-cutter action picture. This glum lug seems really to enjoy hurting people; he snaps limbs and shatters noses with visible relish. Pitted against a gang of Jamaican gangsters who invade his (white ethnic) Chicago neighbourhood and threaten his family, retired DEA agent John Hatcher sets out to solve the case with robotic efficiency, kicking butt in just about every scene. Not quite as pudgy in this 1990 outing as he became a few films later, Seagal looks like the genuine, lethal article in the fight sequences but like a hopeless amateur when he tries to act his way out of the waterlogged-paper-bag of a script. So what else is new? The one bright spot here is Basil Wallace, a mostly unsung actor who throws himself into the showy role of the Rasta gang-boss Screwface, a garishly scarred psycho with piercing ice-blue eyes. --David Chute, Amazon.com

Synopsis

A fun movie

This is a good Seagal thriller and pushes the right buttons. It isn't one of his best but it does deliver the goods.

A GREAT SEAGAL MOVIE
Review date: 2007-08-28 Rating: 8 out of 10

Hatcher beheads him in the end. This is what I like. I like the bad guys to be really bad. I don't like it when the bad guys are wishy washy. I remember the part when he beheaded a woman. On the one hand I was sorry to see her getting killed so wildely, but on the other hand this is what made Screwface a real villain. I assume that all the audience wanted Screwface dead. I did. I think that Screwface is the most evil villain out of all Steven Seagal movies. And I liked that. Screwface would kill people just to kill and for no apparent reason. He just liked to kill. It was his hobby.

In the end we learned that Screwface had a twin brother who was also evil but he only appeared in the end. We thought that when Hatcher beheaded Screwface everything was over but then Screwface's twin brother appeared. We didn't know that he had a twin brother until the end. In the beginning he said that he will be everywhere and I did not know what he meant. But I learned what he meant in the end when his twin brother appeared. Hatcher kills Screwface's twin brother by throwing him to the elevator shaft. If you are a fan of Steven Seagal you should check this one out. I don't think that this is Seagal's best film but I still think that it's a great movie.

Classic Segal
Review date: 2005-02-14 Rating: 8 out of 10

How can anybody not love this kind of movie? They're so much fun, (although this being Segal, it's a little more brutal than most Hollywood action movies). Forget the plot just asssume Steven Segal: Good kicks the ass of the Rastas:bad. I love the Rastafarian stereotypical bad guys. Love Segal's trademark bad acting (why can he never keep his head still when he's talking?) More importantly love Segal's fighting. He really was a hard son of a gun at the time of this movie and he obviously loves dishing out the punishment, in nearly every scene. That's what's great about Steven Segal, he doesn't shy away from the brutality in his early movies, and I love him for it.
This movie isnt going to win an oscar but for wam bam thank you mam style violence, Segal is the king. Check out Nico, Hard To Kill, and Out For Justice as well.
