Amazon.co.uk Review
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka comes from Keenan Ivory Wayans--the man who brought us Jim Carrey (initially just one of the bunch on Wayans' US television comedy-sketch show, In Living Color)-- and is a comedy spoof on the blaxploitation films of the 1970s. Wayans plays Jack Spade, an army private just returning from the service. He comes home to find his younger brother June Bug dead of an overdose of gold chains (an "OG") He vows revenge, and with the help of some of the neighbourhood's old-skool heroes including Flyguy (Antonio Fargas), Kung Fu Joe (Steve James), Hammer (Isaac Hayes), Slammer (football star Jim Brown) and John Slade (Bernie Casey), Spade wages a war against Mr Big, the neighbourhood crime lord. In the tradition of Airplane! and Naked Gun, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka pokes fun through satire and offensive comedy. The film also features appearances from such varied actors as Clarence Williams III, Eve Plumb (better known to most as Jan Brady), and Chris Rock as a rib-joint customer. --Shannon Gee, Amazon.com

I.G.G.Y.S is a well observed and classically executed parody of blaxploitation, gangster culture and bling with some classic cameos from Chris Rock and the masterful Isaac Hayes. If you liked other Wayans Brothers films then you will appreciate their way with ridicule as seen in the first two Scary Movie films. As a piece of eighties nostalgia it satisfies with ludicrous costumes; including that of June Bug who is only presented dead in the first scene submerged in gold chain- the victim of O.G.-Over Gold!
If you have a sense of humour and are partial to bad action films, you must watch this. If you like the idea of gangster chique and bling being sent-up in true style, again this is a must. At a time when all 'action-figure actors'are taking themselves way too seriously, a follow up to this would be most welcome.

A ReviewReview date: 2004-12-17 Rating: 10 out of 10This film cheered me up no end since I first saw it. One of the first Ivory Way Productions, this film satirises and spoofs the genre of blaxploitation. From pimps in huge Fedoras to a leather clad hero who crashes through windows (painfully), this film takes all the most memorable elements of the whole genre and not only satirises it, but also honours it. Yes, it's a comedy but it has a much more serious message. It reflects the cyclical nature of film genres (spoof being the last stage, according to Metz anyway) and shows how black Americans in american cinema were further stereotyped. The spoofing of these genre elements show how far black Americans have come in cinema, but also highlights the past in a way which forces the reader to accept that this is the way things were.
Starring a huge list of Blaxploitation stars such as Jim Brown, Isaac Hayes (whom composed the theme to Shaft, and won an Oscar in the process) and Antonio Fargas, one could not hope for a more star studded cast. Following the exploits of a soldier who arrives home after his brother is killed by an overdose of gold chains ((called an OG), the protagonist fights 'The Man' (a middle class white male) and his gang with the help of previous crime fighters.
This film is hilarious as long as you have some knowledge of the genre. Even if you don't, pick a copy up! You will NOT be disappointed.
hmmmReview date: 2004-04-26 Rating: 4 out of 10As a big fan of Keenan Ivory Wayans' films I was disappointed by thisone... I'd heard great things about it but in truth it's nowhere near asfunny as Don't Be A Menace To South Central or Scary Movie. It has acouple of funny moments, but check out Don't Be A Menace to see what theWayans brothers can do when they're on form. There are sooo many missedopportunities for great jokes in this film.. I kept waiting for thepunchlines.. but they usually didn't arrive. Perhaps it's because thedirector was also playing the lead role... who knows.. but check out hisother films before this one.Very,Very Funny!!!Review date: 2003-06-25 Rating: 10 out of 10This is one of the best spoofs I have ever seen, totall beats all the naked guns and scary movies put together.Keenan Ivory wayans is a great director and has an eye for great comedy. The person who steals the whole film is Flyguy played by none other than antonio fargas (Huggy Bear).Just watch his poem titled 'Bitch better have my money' to know what i'm talkin about. You will watch that same scene over and over again.Guarenteed!Hilarious!Review date: 2002-07-04 Rating: 8 out of 10This is a fantastic comedy that any fan of more recent Wayans brothers movies such as Scarey Movie and Don't Be A Menace will love. There are many familiar faces including Antonio'Huggy Bear' Fargas as a pimp whose stuck in the seventies and soul singer Isaac Hayes, as well as other actors who starred in the 70's blaxplotation films that this comedy is a parody of.
