Amazon.co.uk Review

Unless you've had your head in a plate of pie and mash for the last few years you'll know that The Naked Chef is the UK's youngest culinary talent, Jamie Oliver, and that the "naked" refers to his style of cooking--fresh, simple, stripped back to basics--not his dress sense. The tone is set for the series from the very first episode with roast leg of lamb flavoured with garlic, rosemary, and pancetta and baked fresh fruits (figs, peaches, cherries) with mascarpone and vanilla sugar. It's all ever so slightly and deliciously left of a very classic centre. His basic recipe for homemade pasta is so undauntingly straightforward, it almost certainly did for pasta-makers what Delia did for coriander when she first used it. If his young nieces can handle ravioli with broad bean, mint and fresh ricotta or his mouth-watering variation with potato, watercress and orgonzola, then we all can. Equally simple but inspiring are his fish dishes: baked salmon fillets with French beans, roasted cherry tomatoes, olives, anchovies and a basil aioli; whole steamed sea bass slashed and stuffed with fresh herbs, red peppers and onions; or his Asian-inspired herb-infused broth over steamed king prawns, scallops and clams with sliced ginger root, garlic and chilies. It remains to be seen whether Jamie Oliver turns out to be the Delia Smith for the lad and ladette generation, but British supermarkets seem infinitely better since he's had his way with purple basil, fennel and baby new potatoes on national television. --Tricia Tuttle

Synopsis

The first season of Jamie Oliver's immensely popular NAKED CHEF television series. The 'Naked' in the title of the show refers to cooking meals that are stripped to their bare essentials, without all the flourishes that make many recipes too much effort for most folks at home, yet still cooking meals that are creative and delicious. Containing over three hours worth of Jamie's instruction plus the Christmas Special, this collection of the NAKED CHEF is perfect for anyone who's interested in cooking great meals but intimidated by the time and effort most other shows' recipes require.

Send it across the pond!!!

The saddest thing about the rise of this fantastic young chef is that the Pukka Tukka and Naked Chef episodes on DVD aren't available in the US! There are a couple available, but the Pukka Tukka series in particular was outstanding. Anyone who is mystified with a utensil more complicated than a kitchen whisk will find confidence previously unknown in watching these programs - not just a list of ingredients or written directions, but the ability to observe such simplistic methods yielding such spectacular results. Bravo Jamie!

This is without doubt the best cookery programme on TV. Jamie inspired a whole new generation.Check out his Pukka tukka video also available here on Amazon - it's like the naked chef but more fun i think! This is still a worthwhile DVD to own though,so buy it!!!

This is not your normal cooking video, so much so that my 7 year old son insists on watching this in bed instead of the usual Dragonball Z, Digimon etc etc. A must buy!

inspiring and funny

Although it's a show with a preproduced concept (i think) Jamies way of cooking inspires me to try new things out in the kitchen. It s a simple way of cooking with fresh stuff and left overs. and funny I love to make a mess too out of my kitchen I specialy love the scene where he does this thing with cooking fish in aluminiun foil with allot of herbs, potatoes, veggies and wine!

YUMMIE!

Good series!!!

This series was a breakthrough in TV cookery. It unleashed a whole new generation of would be chefs, and deserves much praise! Potential buyers should also be aware of Jamies new "pukka tukka" video which has never been shown on TV.It has many elements from this series and is worth a look.Everything Jamie does is cool though,so you decide!
