Wonderful and vastly underrated film
Review date: 2005-03-02 Rating: 10 out of 10
Eye Of The Beholder is a film I chanced across a couple of years ago in a Global video store. After watching it the first time I rented it another 3 times before finally buying the rental version form the store!
Starring Ashley Judd and Ewan Macgregor, this is a tale of obsession, irrational obsession, of loss and love. It's a story of people, of scars, of life and survival. It's one of the most amazing films I've ever seen. Not just because of the grade A acting and direction, but also as a technical achievenment.
If you're an admirer of David Fincher's elaborate camera pans and trickery, you might also like to watch this, even as a purely technical film it's remarkable. The fades, editing and camerawork is utterly masterful. The soundtrack is perfect. It's an experience more than a mere story. I cannot reccomend this DVD enough.
For those who have ever felt loss, this is a movie that can touch you and inspire you with Hope.
"I wish you love."

Well Below The BeltReview date: 2005-01-21 Rating: 2 out of 10I saw this film a few months ago, I've subsequently tried to block all trace of of that event out of my memory so I'm not gonna be big on details. This is as much a warning as review. DO NOT GIVE UP TWO HOURS OF YOUR LIFE ON THIS FILM. It was so terrible it made me angry. There's not a performance of note (and thats being kind), your suspension of disbelief is stretched beyond breaking point, the message is as confused and pointless an exploration of voyerism/obsession/love/longing/skiving off work as your going to find and it culminates in such a poor ending that your soul will be forever impoverished. Really, I'm not joking, don't watch this film, not even for a sick dare. What was THATReview date: 2004-07-19 Rating: 2 out of 10the point of this film was? This has wasted serious dirty cartoon watching, I have nevr been so bored.2 hours wastedReview date: 2001-06-03 Rating: 2 out of 10I read the reviews of this film and decided to rent it on DVD, what a mistake that was! I honestly belive the other reviewers watched a different film. Ok Ewan's acting was again pretty superb, but the whole film was about nothing, it did not have a storyline. I disagree with anyone who says this is a good film. Don't waste your money.A hauntingly beautifull filmReview date: 2001-02-23 Rating: 10 out of 10I was a bit sceptical about this film when I first went to see it, as despite the hype surrounding his performance in 'Trainspotting', I'm less than convinced that Ewan Mcgreggor is actually any good. However, by the time the film finished my fears had been proved unfounded. Instead I left the cinema feeling overwhelmed by what I had seen, I was genuinely moved. This is a film which is basically about obsession and what it can do to people. But it is also so much more, it is one of the most tender love stories I've ever seen. It's a haunting tale of lonliness, of two people needing each other, being so close, but never quite touching. For a tragic love story, it is in many ways far more tragic then say Romeo and Julliet. This is a film i must have spent days thinking about trying to understand, there are so many levels to it. If you want a film that you can easily get into, then not give a second thought to, see 'Batman and Robin', If you want a film that will engage you and leave you pondering its meaning weeks later, see 'Eye of the Beholder'.
