Amazon.co.uk Review

Here's a film that only a Steven Seagal fan could love. Fire Down Below not nearly as good as Under Siege (the movie destined to remain Seagal's high-water mark), but not any worse than Above the Law. This time ol' Steve is an agent of the Environmental Protection Agency who's busting heads in Kentucky. He's on good terms with the local yokels (including Marg Helgenberger and Harry Dean Stanton), but locks horns with a slimy mogul (Kris Kristofferson) who's using abandoned mines to dump toxic waste. Along with an ecological message, Seagal serves up several broken limbs, cracked skulls, and bloody noses, and he even finds time to do some guitar picking with country boys such as Travis Tritt and Randy Travis. Once you've heard Seagal crooning a country tune, you'll be eager to see him go back to whuppin' the bad guys. --Jeff Shannon

Synopsis

Action guru Seagal goes rustic as a hard-line EPA agent who brings his own brand of environmental justice to bear upon waste-dumping corporate baddies in a run-down Kentucky mining town. When not bringing villains to their knees, he befriends a band of locals and empowers them to stand up for their rights. Features bits from country music luminaries Levon Helm, Randy Travis, and Travis Tritt.

Plenty of the right elements, just goes on too long
Review date: 2008-08-15 Rating: 8 out of 10

This has some great action, a fantastic bit with a flare & a load of petrol, & some high quality ass kicking.

It also outlasts its welcome in some places but hey, it does 90% of what it says on the tin.

A SEAGAL FILM THAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
Review date: 2007-02-06 Rating: 6 out of 10

I watched this last night in bed and was expecting a normal STEVEN SEAGAL film with plenty of action and a thin plot but this was the opposite - plenty of plot and not enough action. FIRE DOWN BELOW could of been rated a 15 and not an 18.

The story is: In the peaceful Appleachian hills of Jackson, Kentucky, the Earth burns. The toxins being dumped into abandoned mines could turn Jackson into a wasteland if no one stops it. EPA Marshal Jack Taggart will.

Steven Seagal is Taggart - his job is to ferret out those responsible for poisoning the land and when thugs try to take him out Seagal takes on another job (yes the job he is well known for - kicking people's heads in) but... there isn't enough of it and that's what people want to watch a Seagal film for.

But as things go this isn't a bad film but not one of his best (I guess this is where his career started going down hill into straight to dvd films).

So my final word is enjoy this for what it is and you won't be disappointed but just don't hype it up to be something it's not.

Tank you for reading my review.

seagal at his passion again
Review date: 2004-10-01 Rating: 6 out of 10

yes seagal doing another passionate movie like oon deadly ground only this time its actually good.for a movie about the enviroment there is a lot of action in it but dont expect a lot of voilence like nico, marked for death, out for justice.but you can expect a very enjoyable movie.i own all of seagals movies and i do mean all of them from [nico-out of reach]and this is by far not his best but take it for what it is and youll love it

One of Seagal's best
Review date: 2002-02-12 Rating: 8 out of 10

This is possibly the one Steven seagal movie I never tire of watching. Criticised by some for his eco-beliefs Seagal is at his best as an undercover EPA sent to investigate the death of his friend in a US backwater. Good action sequences and lot of humour make this a must-see film. Also touching is his relationship with the town outcast, Sarah. Kris Kristofferson gives a good performance as the dodgy businessman but it's Seagal who shines. Definately his best film since Under Siege.

Too Much Eco Too Little Action
Review date: 2001-01-05 Rating: 4 out of 10

As a fan of Steven Seagal, I rushed out to buy it. But having watched it I wonder why I bothered. Seagal plays an EPA Marshal out to stop Kris Kristofferson poisoning the land.

Unfortunately it has been done before and better in On Deadly Ground and this time Michael Cain is not there to give movie a kick.

Die hard Seagal fans will enjoy seeing him again, but that's about the only plus point for this film.
