The San Patricio Battalion
Review date: 2004-05-05 Rating: 6 out of 10

The film is the story of the San Patricio Battalion. They were mostly Irish immigrants who deserted from the United States Army either just before or during the US - Mexican War of 1846 - 1848. They joined the Mexican army and fought against the United States. When finally captured they were either branded as deserters or hanged as traitors.

To the Americans they were traitors and best forgotten and to the Mexicans were Heroes. Sadly History has almost forgotten them.

This film attempts to tell the story of these men. It is marred by the "love" affair between Reilly and a Mexican woman, but if you ignore that angle it is quite a watchable film. I enjoyed it!
