I won't say this is the one and only book or resource you will ever need -- there really are so many good ones out there. But they don't get better than this.
May not be a glossy text, full of pictures of perfect bodied former dancers, but the photos and illustrations are perfectly suited to the style of the book...
No nonsense, clear, concise, puts you back in control of getting better. I love my chiropractor, send her cards at the holidays, invite her to my child's birthday parties, but I don't want to be beholden to her or the physiotherapist or any other profession to 'make' me better. The program outlined in this book puts me back in control of the pace of getting my back into shape, pain-free, supple, stable.
After following the program for just 2 weeks, the referred pain from my lower back down my leg via the sciatic nerve (for those in-the-know, good old fashioned "sciatica") was entirely alleviated. After only a short time more, many of the long-standing postpartum pelvic pains are eased, and I am walking normally -- in other words the after-baby duck walk is finally gone! I have regained abdominal strength and control I never thought would be mine again after abdominal surgery.
I trust this program will be useful for a long time . It has led me to a local pilates teacher for more advice and help, which I believe has helped speed my progress -- but, nevertheless, on its own this book still can be of great help to someone not able to visit a physio or instructor.
