Simply the Best!
Review date: 2007-05-23 Rating: 10 out of 10
This is just as fresh, funny and delightful today as it was when I first saw it! Only "The Wizard of Oz" can honestly complete with it for talent in dancing and comedy. Russ Tamblin was fabulous and so was the amazing, unique, utterly irreplaceable, Terry Thomas (much imitated by other actors - especially Americans doing stereotyped upper class "English" baddies, most notably Dustin Hoffman's brilliant Captain Hook in "Hook". He took Terry Thomas off even to the extent of the gap between the front teeth!)
Everyone in this film seemed to be giving of their best though and it exudes a romantic charm and warmth that is rare in this genre. Watching this for the first time as a child (although one is always a child again when watching it!) I fell in love with Woody the Woodcutter and wanted a dress like the fairy. OK, so we've got over this now (really!) but as an adult I recognise that whilst many other children's films have lost their edge, this one is a classic and has stood the test of time: the quality shows. My only regret is that is isn't yet on Region 2 DVD to my knowledge and the colour and picture needs some working on. Let's hope that when it does come out eventually they give us the full screen view and have touched up the overall picture - certainly the performances need no improvement! When it's available to everyone in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the rest of the English speaking world - Buy it!!

Words cannot describe...Review date: 2006-05-20 Rating: 10 out of 10Without a doubt my favourite film of all time. Sweet, innocent, fun and full of magic.
As a child it was the most wonderful film I ever watched - because it was just so fun and innocent.
The yawning man, and the dancing shoes. I am a big fan of the brothers grimm and this really brought the story alive in such a special way.
Tom Thum and the advetised Russ Tamblyn audio trackReview date: 2005-09-03 Rating: 4 out of 10Great film and all that I remember from my youth but beware I have now ordered 3 at various times. No not to match the number of wishes but to listen to the advertised full length audio commentary by Russ Tamblyn. I dont know what happens to it in the post but no copy has yet arrived with the advertized audio track. My newest copy is going back to Amazon as soon at the PO opens. Please if the disc does not have the audio delete it from the specifications.
I would be interested in hearing if anyone out there has the audio track on it but I doubt it. Marvellous film let down by a lackluster and misrepreseted adverised dvd.Tom Thumb - You've got to watch it!Review date: 2005-02-11 Rating: 10 out of 10This lively musical comedy, adapted from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, will delight adults and children alike. When a woodcutter spares a special tree, the Forest Queen wants to repay his kindness. She bestows a precious gift upon the man and his wife, who have always longed for a child of their own - a wee boy named "Tom Thumb". Then a dastardly duo plots to rob the village... and the boy no bigger than the size of your thumb becomes a hero, outwitting the thieves and saving the town's riches. :-)This movie I use to watch 3 times a day when I was a kid. You might start doing the same thing when you purchase it!
