All three actors are perfect for the roles, I always prefered Ian Bohen as hercules, rather than Ryan Gosling who took the role for the subsequent television series. I felt he was better suited to the role, but that could just be personal choice. The film is entertaining, and fans of The Legendary Journeys will no doubt enjoy it, but overall, as with the subsequent "Young Hercules" television series, there was something lacking. This is especially obvious when compared to the "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" episodes featuring the young hercules and friends. They may have used the same theme and actors, but that extra spark just seemed to be missing. If you're a fan of either show, or the actors, then it's worth watching. If you're just after a good film with that something extra, unfortunately this just isn't it.

The film tells the tale of how Hercules and Iolus first become friends as teenagers and tells of their first adventure together. It is a prequel/pilot to the "Young Hercules" television series. As with the series (and in "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys") Dean O'Gorman and Chris Conrad reprise their roles as Iolus and Jason, but Ian Bohen takes the role of the young Hercules.
