A timeless masterpiece about the akwarndess of teenage love.
Review date: 2000-12-21 Rating: 8 out of 10

From the moment you pick up gregory's Girl, you know it will be a book like no other. The scene where the schoolboys are watching nurses undress through the nurses home windows sets the tone for a gentle teenage fantasy.

Loaded with classic one-liners, the play features lonely Gregory who until now has had no interest in girls. The gangling, gormless teenager wakes up to his sexuality when he falls for someone in the football team- a girl, called Dorothy.

The object of his obsessions, Dorothy's only ambition is to score- on the pitch. She's happily unaware of the extent of her suitor's passions. Gregory's day-dreams and failed teenage antics to get her attention often amuse, but always touch the heart- who hasn't experienced unrequited love?

We follow Gregory, and the other woman in his life, sister Madeline, through a turbulent puberty and a home-coming, when Gregory realises his fantasies about the perfect Dorothy will never transpire. He is seduced by another classmate- the true Gregory's Girl.

Surrounded by some interesting and hilariously funny peripheral characters, Gregory's Girl is a timeless classic. For the full interactive experience, rent the movie and have a good old fashioned- awwww!
