Battle of the Planets came to Britain in 1978, but started out life in 1972 as a Japanese anime known as Gatchaman!
Bowdlerised by American distributors, Battle of the Planets mixed snippets of the original with new footage to tell the story of five transmuting orphans and their guardian robot, 7-Zark-7.
Each week they would battle against some new and improbable robot menace unleashed by the evil Zoltar from Spectra in the "Crab Nebulae" (sic).
